I think (hope) you're right about the resale. And as long as you're going to spend the money for what you want (a lot of us may not "need" what we bought), I think you should go for the L3130. I've only had mine a few months, but I'm really happy with it. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

A couple of months ago I was going through the same debate.
I've got a 19 acre forest, and 1 acre of brush. Had convinced myself to go with the B2910/7800 until I saw a B2910 sitting next to a L3130. After that and consideration of the daunting task ahead of me, I went to the L-series. Ordered the L3130.
Then called the dealer the next day and upgraded it to a L3830.... Then called a week later and added a BH90 to it...
And I have the dealers personal cell phone number....wonder why they were so eager to give it to me??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyways I have the L3830 and couldn't be happier. Base the decision on your tasks at hand. As long as the tractor is sized for the task (or for a little more than the task) you'll be pleased!!

I have the L3130HST with the 723 loader and BH-90 Backhoe. I have 15 acres, but most of that is wooded. I've had some second thoughts about buying such a big tractor. If I was starting over, I might go with the 2910. My main problem is the damage the tractor does when I operate it on the grass. There is no forgiveness with those R4s. Just turning with a load in the bucket rips up the turf. I can just imagine using AG tires on the lot.
That being said.. I bought the tractor mainly for expanding lawn.. and around these parts that means moving lots of rocks. The L3130 is the top choice there. The loader is very powerful and the backhoe is excellent. I'm amazed at what I'm able to move with it.
Pretend it's a sports car. Buy what you really want, not necessarily what you need. Besides, you may end up with a larger lot some day.
And, you can't go wrong with either tractor.

Jibber, that is very interesting. I was waiting for a Hudson Valley person to post to this thread. I am on the Northern Catskills, and my need is to move easy-chair-sized rocks, hoe in clay and shale, and make roads in a mixed hardwood forest.
It is interesting to see how people are judging tractor size. I have 32 acres, and I thought the 3130 was a touch bulky. Although the weight probably makes it better for snow plowing, the TLB gets up close to $30K. Of course, TLB in a lot of series gets up above $25K...
My main concerns are: 1) will it fit in my second garage bay 2) will the hoe have enough power to grab a hefty rock 3) will it fit between trees

I don't think there is a harder choice to make than tractor buying. It is a fun, but very stressfull event and you want to make the most informed and intelligent choice possible.
My humble input is that it is said you should buy the most tractor you can afford (within reason of course) and having a bit more than you need sure beats not quite having enough tractor.
I have an 85 hr. old 3430 DT/723 FEL/AG tires. I'm on 9 acres. The Grand L series is a wonderful tractor that I am sure will fetch good resale in the event you do one day. This tractor quickly melted away all doubts and second guessing that I bought to much for what I have to maintain, or didn't buy enough. I was a great fit. Whatever you choose will be based on your gut feeling about it and what you can learn before the purhase. You'll do it right with whatever Kubota you decide on.

I used mine for snow removal for the first time this past winter. I have gravel and kept the lip of the loader bucket up an inch or two to keep from picking up too much gravel. It worked great, although the tractor had a tendency to lift the front wheels going uphill with the bucket on float. The back tires will keep you moving forward but you lose steering.. the solution was to plow downhill as much as possible.
As for the rocks, it's great. The loader will lift pretty much anything I can get into the bucket. I have the regular square back bucket and have had no problem so far with any bending or cracking.
I have an 18" hoe bucket and it works fine. Sometimes I have to move the tractor around to get leverage because the soil is SO rocky.
I use most of the rocks I collect to touch up some of the rock walls on my property.. there are many.. originally built by dutch and other resident farmers from the 1600s on through the early 1900s. The biggest problem I have is manuevering into place by hand once I've tractored them to the wall. I'm sore right now from a weekend of wall building.
as for the garage.. I have a regular size car bay.. I lower the rops.. lower the boom on the hoe.. back her in until the boom is almost touching the back wall.. then raise the boom as much as possible and swing it around to the side.. I've attached a photo of how it all fits..
a shoehorn helps.. but she doesn't have to put up with the elements..
and yes.. I realize it's a tractor.. but it's my baby.

Sweet. I just don't think I can justify $7K for the BH at this time. Better I get the right size and a few good implements, I think. My cousin has a little JD with a backhoe, so I guess I can mooch off of him some more.
BTW - since my lawn is actually a thin coating of hay on top of shale (see attached), does it make sense to even bother with the R4s? I don't particularly give a darn if I dig up the lawn - I figure it's poor man's dethatching.
