Eddie,I found the mama on the nest with 2 other piglets this morning.I came over a huge pile of sand i had dumped from the pond and there she was.Even though I had a pistol in hand just in case she still would have got me if so inclined but she ran the other way.We sat the pig down by the nest about 10 minutes later and he screamed for awhile, she saw him and then left.I think she abandoned him because he is only half the size ot the other babies.I guess we will try to raise her long enough to be put back with the other 40 or so pigs that frequent here.By the way last night 300lb. maxwell ran from it when it chased him:laughing:

How is the baby pig doing? Did you name her?

Oscar just keeps growing, but he's not too happy about the heat. He's sleeping most of the day, but doesn get up to change positions or get something to drink. He doesn't always go for walks with me now. But sometimes, he'll show up at the lake after I've left without him. He looks just like a blood hound following my sent. Nose to the ground and coming right after me. I've thought about walking in a zig zag to see how close to my trail he stays!!!!

I bought more fence to finish off my front pasture. I needed 952 feet to get it done, and now it's just a matter of drilling holes and putting it together. I'm not in a rush, but want to be able to put Oscar in there. It's around 4 acres with a 3/4 acre pond. Some wooded areas and a lot of open pasture. I'll add an electric wire to it to keep Oscar from testing it, pushing on it and rubbing on it. As he grows, he'll be able to go through it very easily if allowed to have contact with it.

I'm also thinking that he'll need a friend in there. He's not playfull, and mature boars are usualy loners out in the wild, so I'm undecided. Leo, my yellow cat, hangs out with Oscar, and they seem to like each other, so that will continue no matter where Oscar is. I was thinking that he needs something else. An Emu or two are my first idea, then a miniature horse and my vet suggested a llama. Any thoughts or other idea? In a few years, when my pasture is better, I want to put a couple longhorn steers in there, but that's long term, and I doubt that I'll do it right away. I might, but it's not my plan.

A castrated male would not likely behave much like a boar. He would not be a "loner." Make sure he can get out of the sun, since they can sunburn.

Eddie,
I know goats are good companions for horses when the owner cannot afford two horses. I think a goat my be a choose here.

Eddie, nice pic's, really like that last one, now if the senate and congress could get along like that, I think we would all be much better.

That's a content looking pig Eddie. I thought you had let yourself go, gained a lot of weight, and needed a shave real bad. Now I see that your new avatar pic is Oscar and not you. You had me worried for a bit!
