Back Dragging with a Toothbar

Not offering this as an 'expert' by any means. I'm still learing how to use this properly. But I just thought it fit the thread regarding use of bucket in different positions and how the 4n1 bucket can be used like a box blade.

back to normal business

toothbar comes off simply by taking two big bolts off the side....and yet...these bolts and the design of toothbar fits so tightly that dirt doesnt even get under the edge

SmokyMtnMan... Isn't the 4 in 1 bucket the most useful tool?
I am so impressed with the capabilities it adds to my tractor.
Glad I bit that bullet when I ordered my tractor.

I didn't know 4 in 1 buckets were available for compacts when I bought my tractor. Sure do wish I'd known about them.....

I justified my tractor to the family CFO by convincing her it would save us money. The year after I bought it I bought a backhoe for it... Last year I built a heavy duty trailer to carry it on, and bought a welder to build it with... Now this year I have to convince her I want a 4 in 1 bucket...... I don't think she is convinced that it has saved us much yet... "but it will dear over the long haul, you'll see.....". What the heck, it's worth a shot... Wish me luck!

Just tell her that all your buds at TBN think you should get the 4 in 1 bucket. That'll convince her! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

yes, duckboy, it is. I am impressed with how well built it is too. Sure is heavy though compared to regular bucket. I'm not that good with it yet but i'm learning. One thing that's a minor drawback is that it's harder to see where your front edge and teeth are at times. I punctured a rear tire on my old tractor with the teeth....because i misjudged when i was swinging around it one day...ouch

We have a very prolofic and pesty plant around here, scotch broom. The best way to get rid of it is to pull it and burn it. I spent many days on this place with my Dad on a Fordson and me with a choker pulling those buggers out. Now that this place is mine, and I don't have a son I can make help me, I knew the best way to get rid of this stuff, and blackberries and hawthornes was with a 4 in 1 bucket. I have pulled plants the size of a pencil, and smaller, and as big around as your fist, 12 feet high, roots and all. I too am still learning how to use the bucket, but from loading a capacity load of gravel to picking up the last little bit of a pile, this is a most useful tool. One thing I learned while spreading gravel on my driveway is to carefully open the bucket and adjust my speed to control the drop. You can just about be as fine as a single layer of rock as you move. Then I just float the bucket as I back up. Minimal raking is needed, if at all. Sorry, kind of took off here, but when my brother and sister see what I have accomplished here they are amazed. Could not have done so much already, and had so much fun without my 2710. And I do owe it to TBN......I spent 3 months of gathering info, mostly at this sight, to help me know what I wanted, and needed, before the purchase. Dealers just don't, or can't give the user side of owning and using a tractor. I feel like I know a lot of you here, even without much contribution from me, but believe me, many people here have helped me more than they will ever know. So, thanks to all!

I would agree with many of the comments here. I had a tooth bar on a Kubota B7100 with loader for 9 years. The loader scooped snow, dug dirt, cleared land, maintained driveways, backfilled foundations, carried stuff all over the place, lifted implements to move them around, and did fine grade work. I would not want to be without a tooth bar. I simply rolled the bucket back and used the heal for back dragging. This did eventually wear through the back of the bucket. However, I was maintaing all of my neighbors gravel drives (plus my own) and part of the gravel road in front of the house. It is possible to use the front of the bucket but you have to develop a very sharp sense of where level is for your setup. The easy answer is to weld a wear plate on the heel of the bucket.I have since upgraded to a B2410 and am adding a wear plate. As for removal of the teeth. Most are designed so that they can be installed to slip forward on the bolts and swing up (bad idea, cause they are never tight), or so they can be removed via a few bolts. The fact is you should put it on tight and leave it there. In 9 years I have never removed it, and it has never been anything but a plus to have it on the machine. You could also have a device made from plate material, to attach to over the tooh bar that would provide an edge. This can be attached via chain and removed easily when not needed. As an extra, it can be made wider than the bucket to provide a wider edge within reason.
