Back Surgery

   / Back Surgery #11
It has been almost 2 months since my back surgery. I am getting a little better every day. I went for a follow up visit this week and got to see my xrays. I guess you could call me Ironman now. I was a little stunned at the amount of hardware. I don't have to wear a back brace now unless I feel that I need it. I did hit a big milestone today. I was able to climb on my tractor today and drive it around a little. I was one happy camper.

Chris thats great ... I had mine in 1985 ... if I recall I was scared of doing damage to the back after the surgery. My posture changed, my lifting habits. Now I walk more and have got to watch my weight ... if I get my belly to big it seems like I experience some uncomfortable moments. Everyday it gets better.

Chris, I am recovering from cancer surgery myself on Jan 7. I am just starting to feel more normal, strength is coming back but fatigue easily. My doctors and care takers think my recovery is outstanding and I feel weak. Now that the weather is better I do get out of the house. Still having problems with my left leg and steps. I also have the same problem that I cannot sit. You must find things to occupy your mind, do not rush things, learn to relax. Find a hobby that you can do on a table top. You have been working hard all your life and have earned the right to kick back. When you are ready, you are ready.

I have been walking and am trying to walk a little more each day. I have got to loose some weight! I was heavy enough before the surgery and then added a few pounds more being inactive (and eating too much). I will get there in time.

Sorry to hear about your cancer surgery. I know what you mean about feeling weak. I have had my legs buckle under me several times but have been lucky and not fallen (yet). The weather here in TN has been much nicer the last few days and it sure has helped me. The cold damp weather was working on me. I can't wait for spring. I certainly wish you a speedy recovery.

It is amazing just how therapeutic operating a tractor can be. I doubt you could have beat the grin off of my face just driving my tractor around a little for the 1st time in 2 months. Next will be working my drive repairing the winters damage, but I wont push it and try to do too much. I wish you the best with that knee.

Well guys, I dug up my back surgery thread to update it. I just got home yesterday from having yet another back surgery. This seems to be becoming a habit :). I had basically the same surgery as last time except a little higher up. I am doing great so far and seem to be much better off than compared to the last one. I have been in so much pain for so long down my legs and such. Now my pain is just in the area of the surgery. I immediately got all the feeling back in my legs and all the pain went away in them.

The doc said that this should be the last time that I am bothered with this. I sure hope he is right. I took a 2 month medical leave from work so I can concentrate on getting this healed right. No driving for 2 weeks and no tractor operating for maybe 2 months. All U can really do is walk and I plan to do as much of that as I can. Need to loose some of me anyway.

Sorry to hear you had to go through more surgery but I am glad it seems to have worked out well for you.

Thanks TripleR, so things are good and will hopefully continue to improve.

Glad the second one is going smooth and the issues seem to have been solved. Follow the dr's instructions exactly. My dad has had a number of back surgeries now and keeps having issues because as soon as he "feels" better he goes out and does something he's not supposed to, sometimes causing serious injury again.
