Winter storm Damon came through here this week and knocked the electric lines down for several days. I lost power for one night then had power for a few hours then lost it for two whole days. I pulled out my Honda 4000 contractors generator and rustled up some cords to run freezer, fridge and the wife's sleep apnea mask. Ran like a charm and went about eighteen hours on five gallons of gas. During the second day I moved it up to my daughters all electric dependent house to save the contents of her freezer and fridge. She was cautious of my ability to wire up the hot tub to the generator so I rigged up a tarp shelter over the deck railing and set a propane heater running between the hot tub and the railing. All's well and no food lost or leaks in the hot tub. Just thought I'd throw out an attaboy to Honda for their generators that sit for months and fire up on the second pull.

Glad to hear you were all systems go. Knowing that we can deal with a few days without power from the grid and still live comfortably makes the big snow storms much more enjoyable!

Honda engines are good stuff. I've had the same experience with my generator. Open the fuel tank valve, close the choke, pull the rope and done. It still has the original spark plug too, 15 years-old.

I share the same results with my little Subaru engine..........Just wondering how often folks change the fuel in their tank's..........For me, I don't run it enough to have to refill the machine so I drain it a couple of times through the winter and refill with new..........Most often, I just leave it empty and fill it from my NEVER RUN OUT SUPPLY..........That way I know it is fresh. Between the chipper, splitter, mower, chain saws, blowers, and other equipment we ALWAYS make sure we keep at least 2 of our 5 gas cans full..........God bless........Dennis

Having lost a chainsaw and a couple of other small two cycle engines to ethanol laced gas I am quite aware of the problem. The generator had been sitting unused with a full tank of gas with stabilizer added to it for about a year. Either the stabilizer is very god or I'm just lucky. Having run three tanks full of fresh through it it should be all right now but I am thinking of filling it with ethanol free premium gas I can now get at a almost local station and adding stabilizer to that.
