Does anyone have any advice or ideas on adding a backhoe to a 6520 4-wheel drive????

Oh and the only problem in 80 hours so far, the lift cylinders for the FEL gave up one afternoon, they were orderd on a Friday and installed on a Tuesday by the dealer. Working great since, well there is another problem cannot keep enough diesel in the machine on the weekends.

You all have a great weekend

Bradco/Mahindra 511. Get the 24" and 12" buckets. If you only can get one, then get the 16". I'm assuming that Bradco makes the 511 for the frame mount on the 6520 as they do for the 6000/6500. You have a nice weekend as well. BobG in VA

The dealers know it by 511F, the F gives you the correct mount kit. We put one on a 7520 4wd recently , what a beast!

I am also contemplating getting a backhoe. What is a reasonable price for a 511 with a 24" bucket and a frame mounting kit (for 6500 4 WD)? I'm really interested in the Bradco 611 hoe. It is the same dimensions as the 511, but a good deal beefer. It will mount up to the same frame kit I'll need for the 511. I also want the hydraulic thumb. Anyone have any knowledge on the 611 or the thumb (also fits the 511)?

bob its alot of $xx,xxx.cc to give you an starting point. I'd think about a used
excavader

I haven't looked into an excavator as I assumed a good used one would be considerably more than a backhoe. It appears the 611 hoe is only about $850 more than the 511.

We had a Woods Equipment Company BH90-X installed yesterday, cost was just at $7500.00 (was the last one on the lot and they wanted to move it) but well worth the expenses. We looked at Mahindra and Brush Hog and decided on the BH9-X because of the construction the welding job was massive/gussets and box beams, and the fact the unit is self contained just hook up to the three point and the PTO and off you go. We have dug some massive holes and trenches and are happy so far..

I want as much reach as I can get on a hoe. While I have some tiling and road ditching jobs, the primary use will be to dig out and load slate fieldstones. My property is littered with them. I'm in the process of seeing what the market is for them locally.

I don't see the 511 listed as an option for the 6500. I have the 511 with the 6500 4wd and it is a beast. Takes some getting used to but it can really dig when you get the hang of it. I am not crazy about the PTO pumps they sell with it as I've had issues with mine.

Make SURE you get a frame mount and not the 3point. 3 points put undue stress on a tractor. the frame mounts make the backhoe part of the frame. Also it has been said here in the past that a backhoe other than what mahindra sells will void the tractor warranty.

Tim,

Not sure what you mean about "...511 listed as an option for the 6500." I have 6500 4wd. Did you mean 611?

I contacted Bradco. The the 611 uses the same subframe as the 511 for the 6500 4wd.

What do you mean about "takes some getting use to..."? What were the issues you had with the pto pump? (While I don't know if it will fit, I was thinking about replacing by tractor pump with one from the 6520 (12.4 gpm) or the 7520 tractor (17 gpm). I'd also probably want to add a reservior for cooling.)

I have the 511 (Mahindra/Bradco) on my 6000 4wd. It is a beast. Been very happy with it. I don't have a pto pump and it has never been a problem. I don't run mine everyday, in fact, I really don't have a lot of hrs on it, but when you need it, even for the small job, it sure is great. I have two buckets as well. One small for trenchs for drain, which cuts down on back fill material needed. I also have 24 inch for bigger jobs. I also agree, go with the sub frame mount. I really don't like the idea of being in between the tractor and the hoe with all that stress w/o knowing it will not crush me.

I've always wondered the same thing... if the 611 and 511 are essentially interchangable dimensionally, 600 series adding only 250 lbs and both use the same subframe, why would Mahindra choose to offer the 509 & 511 as opposed to the 609 and 611 (or perhaps offer both)? Aside from the hydraulic pump rating issue (which, admittedly, generally matches the 500 series specs better on most Mahindras... albeit quickly fixable with a PTO pump), I can't help but wonder if Mahindra feels there would be too much stress on the tractor frame with the more powerful 600 series units. This interests me a lot since I am out of warranty (i.e., no warranty left to void) and occasionally see 611's come available on eBay and elsewhere for semi-reasonable money. Provided I could get something decent for my like-new 509, this could be a pretty interesting upgrade. Since I will probably add a PTO pump someday anyway, why not?

Bob, if you look at the mahindra usa website and the 6500 it has the 511 and a smaller hoe listed as options. I didn't see the 611 but that doesn't mean it wont work. The pump I had has plastic oil level sights that cracked and leaked oil causing my pump to sieze. They have worked on it a few times. My dealer has been great, but they said Bradco wasn't the friendliest for getting parts since they aren't a regular Bradco dealer. I am just lucky that I live half an hour away from Bradco's shop so they could drive and pick up the parts. The dealer did all of this at their expense, very nice people.

I also had the idea of changing out the tractor's pump but I don't know what all is involved. Might be other hidden issues such as resivoir capacity. I know for each gpm you are supposed to have a certain amount of resivoir for cooling and such.

By getting used to I just mean it is a very powerful hoe and you have to learn how to feather the controls and have the rpms and speed control set right on the tractor for what you are doing. If you have used a hoe before then this may be old hat for you.

Dougster,

All the Bradco 611s I've seen on Ebay (last few weeks) have quick attach skid steer mountings. I'd be interested in what you would have to do to retro fit the hoe so it would mount to a tractor subframe.

Tim,

Thanks for the info. I now understand what you mean about getting use to the hoe.

I wouldn't be to concerned about increased reservoir capacity for loader work, if I used the the 6520 pump (12.4 gpm). For backhoe work, I would want to add a reservoir, especially for cooling.

No clue here Bob. I only learned from this thread that the 609/611 BH would fit a 509/511 subframe! :) Personally, I'd be willing to pay some good money to go from the 509 to EITHER a 511 or 611. The 509 is great, but I'd really love that little bit of extra reach... and the real beauty of it: It would still fit in my garage! :D I just think I've seen more used 611's available in my endless Internet travels... most (I think) without any mounting adapters or with ones I could never use... so why not go for the extra power too???

Unless, of course, Mahindra has some really good reason... other than hydraulic pump flow... why not to do so.

Speaking of reach. That is why I picked the 511. I can't remember the specs off hand but it can sure go deep (or far :) ). Here I am the first day I was using it.

bob the hoe connetion of skid steer v 4 point is the same, they are both bolted on.If you have a way to hold the 4 pt up and lined up it's easy

JPM,

Are you say that it is relatively easy to swap out the skid steer mount (unbolt) for the mount that would couple to the tractor subframe?
