I have about 4hrs on my B4690B and I bent the shaft on the boom cylinder. I have been running at idle and am not sure how I bent it. Probably had the boom cylinder extended and then put pressure on it by curling the bucket. Seems it would be built to handle that pressure. Are there some things one should not do with a backhoe, inherent weakness? Help don't want to repeat the bending of cylinders-expensive.

I bent the shaft of the hydraulic cylinder on the boom that operates the dipper arm. Terminology?

About the only thing I've heard is DO NOT DRIVE FORWARD WITH THE BACKHOE HOOKED TO SOMETHING!

Tractor has more power than backhoe, something gives.. That would be the top cylinder I believe..

MAG,

Do a search on the site. I seem to recall a rash of bent cylinders a couple of years ago, maybe on the BH90 that was do to either a defective cylinder or undersized parts. I think Kubota changed the part.

Did you try to get Kubota to warranty the part?

Good Luck,
Kevin

I've bent two dipper cylinders on a BH75, and yeah the second one was the replacement with the bigger dia cylinder. So the modification does not completely solve the problem, only helps. Rest in in the hands of the operator. These are small hoe's and if you try hard enough they will bend. Hoe is easier to abuse than the FEL. Depends on what you are digging and how close up to what you are digging. Closer you are to what digging the more the rods are exposed out of the cylinder the more risk to bend rod. if you digging soft or just regular dirt not a problem. Get into stumps and rocks you'd better be careful.

As others have said.. hyds will bend cyl's when you tell the tractor to do something it shouldn't.

Steering cyls'.. loader cyls, hoe cyl's... etc.

I bought my backhoe used from a dealership. They said less than 50 hrs on it. I'll call and see if there is any warranty or recall/change on the cylinder size. My local hydraulic shop is rebuilding the cylinder for just under $400. I checked the previous site about BH90 backhoes and learned quite a bit. Be scared and nervous!

If/when it happens again, get an aftermarket cylinder about the same size. Have your ends welded onto the new cylinder. Probably be less than $400 and last longer.

Then how have I NOT bent the backhoe on my BX23? Because I think I have tried hard enough. I must have done every combination of push pull to the limit of the machine when digging stumps out, from as close to the tractor to a far away as it will reach. Never tried to use the backhoe to pull while driving the tractor but I have done everything else.
Maybe because it's such a small machine? Seems like if they can build mine to hold up they can build the bigger one to hold up. Or have I just been lucky?
