Backhoe Backhoe boom lock pin

Do you have any problems getting the pin back out with the weight of the backhoe now resting on the pin? I thought of trying to do something like that but then figured once I got the pin in I'd never be able to get it out, at least not by hand. I figured it should just slide in and out nice and easy. I find I can easily remove the pin using the hydraulics to pull up on the boom. It releases enough pressure to pull it out. Of course you could always reverse the process with the 2x4. I lock mine mostly when I have the tractor on the trailer. It is also helpful when doing loader work as the boom tends to settle and before you know it your digging in where you don't want to with the rear bucket! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have seen this happen before and there is no real easy fix nor is there a adjustment, you could get a smaller diameter pin,
The holes on the outside boom were welded to low.

Thanks for the info, I was hoping it wasn't something like that but I figured there was no real easy fix like an adjustment. I didn't want to try to trailer it back to the dealer since I haven't got a trailer yet. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks again Wallace

As someone mentioned, something must have been a little off when they did the welding. On my KB2375, I just put the boom in the full rear position and the pin goes in. To get it out after sitting, full rear and pull out the pin. Probably a smaller dia. pin is your only choice unless your only a little off. Maybe grinding the side of the holes in the boom a little would give you enough if you only need a 1/16. I wouldn't want to grind much more.

I too thought of maybe grinding the pin down but it is more like just shy of 1/4" than a 1/16th. When I call the dealer I'll see what he says and see if he might have a smaller diam.

Thanks though.

I think you may have enough room to grind the inside of the holes out enough to get the pin in. I wouldn't grind the pin itself, but the inside of the holes should have enough metal that you can safely do it. If you have too much of a gap, don't do it, but since all it does is hold the boom up, you should be able to gind without worry.

I never thought of trying to do that. I still haven't contacted the dealer yet. Just trying to find the time has been kind of a chore in itself. Thanks for the tip.

As Rick said. Unfortunately no adjustment etc. The pin/hole configuration is a pretty precise way to hold a hoe up. Most companies use one that is more forgiving. As everything wears etc. The pin will line up less and less. I use a hardened 1/2" or 9/16" Bolt. Also can use 1/2' hitch pins as they are almost always hardened.

Wallace, if Kioti can't fix this, shouldn't they replace it? I can't believe they wouldn't, especially when you consider the liability of a safety device not working properly.

I have had the same problem with my hoe. It worked fine a couple of weeks. I used the FEL without the pin in and one day it would not go in. Seems to me that the pins or bushings in the pivot locations are wearing or possibly crushing. When I raise the hoe if done at a fairly rapid pace it will go high enough but then settle down. Since it did work at first it seems to me it must be a wear issue. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
