I threw together this backhoe dolly for my JD 46 out of scrap materials including a couple of pieces of channel iron, angle iron and scrap lumber.

I originally planned on using a piece of angle iron across the two bolts on the front channel to lock it onto the dolly, but it is so heavy, I don't think it is really necessary.

The 6x6 is held on with a couple of lag bolts through the bottom of the channel.

Nice, wish I had a place with a concrete floor to store my BH.
I still have not mastered putting my BH on, taking it off is easy enough. Is there any "Boy I wish I had known that before" tricks to putting these babies on?

Gizmo2,

I am a newbie, so not that much to share about attaching/removing backhoe except that, the thing is very tail heavy, so when attaching, it is best to use the dipper to raise the back end first, then use the legs to get the rear hooks to the right height. If you use the legs first, it will tip to the rear and make the front end raise up and hit the tractor frame before you engage the rear hooks.

I guess everyone else knows that, but it took me awhile to realize it. Otherwise, just the usual about being sure to have the machine shut off and work the loader joystick in all directions to relieve the hydro pressure before trying to connect the power beyond.

What part of attaching the hoe gives you trouble?

I guess the real trouble is I am so use to attaching the #7 BH to my old 650, 20 years. The #7 BH did not have the hooks, as on the 46 BH, the hooks were on the 650 tractor and it was by far easier to install.
It seems the trick to the 46 BH is in the alignment of the hooks on the BH to the tractor and enough height. I really believe if the hooks were longer on the 46 BH it would make things a lot easier. I have only attached it 3 times and maybe I am missing something.

Those are 2 1/2 inch cast iron casters and they seem to be handling the load fine. I have made several dollies and used the same type of caster on all of them with no problems. Even so, I was surprised at how easy the backhoe rolls on them.
