I am looking to put a backhoe attachment on a 17HP Kubota compact tractor. There are some many backhoes on the market in all price ranges. I would greatly appreciate any feedback on backhoe brands/models used on small compacts.

There are lots of vendors for backhoes. Your tractor will take a small unit if one is available. There are also different attachment mechanisms available, depends on the tractor. You are at the lower power end of suitable tractors for a backhoe, so be sure to talk to the suppliers and don't just order from a catalog.
If you'd fill out your user profile, you might be able to get some specific advice from a local TBNer or dealer.
Check with your local Kubota dealer for his recommendations. A new backhoe will be in the $5,000 range, maybe as low as $4,000. Used backhoes for compact tractors are difficult to find.
