Backhoe Size?

......So the subframe is just something bolted onto the tractor frame that you hook the backhoe to when you put it on the 3 pt hitch?............Where's a good place to hunt for a sub frame?............

If the backhoe is a subframe type, it connects directly to the subframe and does not use the 3-point hitch arms or top link. If it is a 3-point type, it attaches to the arms & top link. The nice thing about the 3-point hitch is it is universal. The drawback is it isn't as strong & rigid.

BH subframes are reinforcing frames bolted under the tractor - they usually connect in several places to the rear axles, bell housing, front loader frame, etc. Backhoes and tractors are all different so backhoe subframes are REALLY all different. The tractor is the harder thing to match. Once you have a frame that fits your tractor model, getting the backhoe to fit it is the easier part.

Short of custom-making one, the best place to find a subframe to fit the L3750 might be a tractor recycler or a large dealer's attachment/parts yard, Craigslist, eBay, etc.. You'd be looking for anything that is intended for a L3350, L3750, L4150, L4350, L4850, or L5450.

Today's backhoe manufacturers offer subframes for current models but fitting to older stuff is hit-or-miss and spendy. For the L3750 I'd try it without a subframe and see how you like it. A lot of digging has been done by 3-point backhoes. Have fun - Dick B

The Goosen is a good unit! There is a backhoe completing kit for the bush hog backhoe that is current for that model tractor. What has been said about the backhoe's not having rigid frames is true of tractors of that vintage not having frames but connecting to the three point hitch. It was right after tht that they started putting frames on them.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'm busy reading that backhoe thread; lot's of good info!

Your (rbargeron) description helps me a lot just understanding how these things work. This backhoe is really the first one I've ever seen, and I was looking with a flashlight in an old dark barn!

Glad to hear the Goossen is a good unit. We'll see about this equipment when the lady prices it...

When buying a used hoe attachment, condition and location are everything. For
the past several years, I have seen decent units going for only a couple $K or
less in my area.

It is perhaps useful to note that virtually all hoe attachments from the major
non-OEM vendors (Woods, Bradco, BushHog, Rhino, etc) were offered with
a selection of subframes and a 3-pt option. The 3-pt option was so the hoe
could be sold to anyone with a CAT 1 3-pt hitch. The 3-pt option or
the subframe just bolts onto the back of the hoe and either can be easily
removed if you want to go the other way.

The only common hoe attachment I can think of that came ONLY with a
3-pt connection was the Kubota 4672/4690 series. If you made a
subframe to mount one of those, you would have to cut the 3-pt parts off.

Sadly, I have just sold my last tractor that I made a subframe for, and I
am soon to have only one tractor to use around here. :(
