Backhoe Stabilizer Pads/Claws

I also had a sliding around issue in digging out some stumps. My solution, which helped a lot but didn't completely eliminate the problem due to the weight of my tractor, was to make a steel wedge design. My stabilizers came with thick rubber pads, 2 per pad, for use on asphalt/concrete. Each rubber pad has 2 embedded studs for mounting. I simply used 1 inch x 2 inch steel stock in their place and welded on 4 wedges made from 5 inch wide, 1/2 inch thick stock.

Man I would hate to walk a bit too close to those when in raised position. Those look downright dangerous to the operator. A rectangular box of plate rather than the triangle spears would have worked just as well and not ripped flesh from your body if accidentally contacting them.

if you have some time, instead of using horse floor padding, having access to a band saw, stop on side of road and pick up tractor trailer tire treads. i have used them for many projects. work great. i even made an edge for my bucket to use on snow so it wouldn't scratch the concrete. didn't leave any black marks either. cold made the rubber even harder. truck tread are free along side of road, just have to use band saw to cut them.

Just DON'T DO IT ON THE INTERSTATE during rush hour traffic!!

Planning to cut, drill, and bolt on some channel iron here. My hoe is constantly dragging me to the stump with the street pads.

DOH! Man do I feel stupid. I was reading the operators manual on my backhoe today and see that my pads are reversible. All I had to do was raise them up and flip them on the pivots. Didn't even have to take a pin out or nuthin.
