Backhoe thoughts?

I feel fortunate finding a used Backhoe with the correct mount for the 2520.
As you should. I'd be singing all day. I paid $6,500.00 for our 46BH in 2008, just sayin!

Thnaks again Gizmo2 I just returned from the dealer and added the power beyond kit to my purchase.

I don't usually find such good deals. Just kind of happpened.
The odd thing is that about a month ago I saw the ad for this same backhoe. I was hesitant to buy without having made my final tractor selection. Then just as suddenly the add disappeared so I naturally assumed that the unit had been sold. A few weeks later I ordered the 2520 and was lamenting the fact I could have saved some big money on a backhoe a few weeks prior.
That's the way it normally works for me :(.

Much to my surprise when just randomly searching ads last Wednesday I saw the same backhoe advertised. You know the rest.

I asked the seller didn't you sell this about a month ago and maybe the sale fell through? He told me he had adverized it off and on since last year originally asking $4,000. He didn't keep the ad current each cycle. So when it disappeared it was simply that he didn't ask for it to be reposted.

So my take away was even if an ad is no longer listed a call to the seller might find the item still available.

Curiosity on the end of the hydro cylinders and the fittings were I indicated the surface rust is that all unpainted on your backhoe? I was wondering what was different about those spots in particular.

Hi Smalltown,

Be sure to get ALL of the bits and pieces off of his tractor for mounting the backhoe.

I thought that I recall there being a different rear PTO guard (16 above) with the addition of the backhoe. You might want to compare the one on your tractor to his and swap it if they are different. In any case, be sure to get the mounting brackets off of his loader subframe (21-25 above).

Also, in case you don't get the owner's manual, you can view it here:

Congratulations on a great find!

ensoll thanks for the diagram, and the link. Yes he is going to remove the mounting brackets from the loader subframe.

Your diagram looks a little different just slightly from what I observed yesterday. His backhoe sub frame had two holes at the front that I assumed were for mounting on a 2520 or 2720. The hardware holding the mounting brackets to the loader sub frame seemd to have sort of square U bolt that held the lower brackets to the loader sub frame. Maybe the subframe and mounts have changed. In either case he has the 2520 right there that the #46 backhoe was removed from. I hope it's not one of those what year was your 2520 made or serial number issues :confused2:

You've got me thinking maybe JD will charge me a fortune for part 16????

I think what you have is the early version of the 46 backhoe subrframe. I'm afraid I don't know anything helpful about the differences but I would definitely get that PTO guard/support from his machine. The best thing to do is to bring your machine and swap all needed parts over, then mount the backhoe and drive it onto your trailer once it is all complete.

My new 2520 hasn't arrived yet. I think he said his backhoe was 3 years old.
Yes latest diagram is exactly what I remember seeing.

People will say anything. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I don't know when JD switched to the new subframe. Ask your dealer. Not the sales people, ask the service manager or an experienced technician.

If you can, maybe leave a deposit on the hoe and bring your new machine to make the swap? It's also a lot easier to know where things go if you can take them off of one machine and put them right on the other.

Thanks for the info Chris. I E-mailed the dealer and asked for a price before they get part 16. If it is very expensive (something tells it will be)I will go back and ask the seller when my new 2520 arrives if I we could swap out his PTO guard for my spanking new guard.

It's about $1100. That ought to get your attention. :)

Ya that got my attention I stood right up! Doesn't seem right to ask $1,100 for a part like that. As far as I know it's not even part of the backhoe mounting kit, but ordered seperately.

As I recall the backhoe with subframe is ~$6,500
Sub frame if ordered seperaterly $900
