All of our excavators in our rental fleet have hyd. thumbs. I'm not too terribly impressed with them. The 121-2's had a different type of thumb compared to the new 121-3's we have. Thumbs are not made by kubota as someone mentioned, and unfortunately, the thumbs are super narrow. To me, it's too narrow, but if you put on the 1 foot trenching bucket, it fits just fine when you close the thumb to the bucket, the 2 foot is wide and the thumb does not cover the whole bucket. I also don't like how the thumb does not close all the way, if you curl the bucket all the way out the thumb stops so far, not like the larger excavators. BUT, this new thumb on the 121-3 is better than the old ones I think. Here's a pic to show what I mean, that bucket in the pic. is curled all the way out and the thumb is "closed" as far as it goes. Also, I heard from one of the guys at work that even the 3 foot cleanout is made from another company, at least the ones we carry for the trackhoes. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
