Actually, those are called Trunnion mount cylinders - if it were me, I'd call around BEFORE travelling that far, and using the correct terms will probably make communications easier so you don't waste a trip... Steve

No rod nut at all? Not like any cyl I have repaired. Can you post photo(s) of the rod's threads and the
stripped out piston?

BTW, $300 is not bad for an all-new cyl of this type. I have gotten new rods made for me for $100-150,
but not every hyd shop will do this and I live near the Silicon Valley, and even I have only a couple of shops
to choose from.

Our local hyd. shop services tons of logging equipment. Maybe Bastrop might have a Mom and Pop shop.

ordered a new one for $300...took the old one into Austin to a shop that advertised repairs...his estimate was "near $400 or a bit more" ...uh..no...Put the new one on yesterday when I got it but haven't powered it up yet. maybe tomorrow. I'll find someplace later to repair my now spare for a reasonable price. Today is a run to town. I have to spend time on my mac...over the weekend my kid somehow disconnected the wireless printer from the computer and attached it to only MS Word. I can print word docs but nothing else. I really need to scan - and that won't connect either. ARRRGH! I hate, hate, hate working this stuff.

I don't hate working on tech stuff-- it hates me -- 2 months to figure out why the wireless quit working. Every time I thought I had it, no internet connection. I think these things are manufactured by ISIS just to terrorize us.

I think that is an awesome price. Now, at your leisure, take the old cylinder apart. Keep a record of the seal and oring order. If the inside is not scored, buy a new rod and take the seals and orings to a shop that can match them............or just order a rebuild kit, along with the new rod.

the "hydraulic house" in Austin would do it ...I just didn't want to pay more for the repair than I could buy new. I'll take my time and run across someplace that will be reasonable.I tried to take the old one apart today ...can't get the piston to come out. I'll try to pop it out with hyd pressure ....when I git a round tuit.

Air pressure will pop it out. Years ago, some coworkers and I were repacking (aviation term for rebuild it) one of our man lift's cylinders. This cylinder was 4 x 36 inch. The dang rod and piston would not come out. So, we hooked it up to 120 psi and nothing happened..................then a few seconds later, a huge bang as the rod and piston took off across the hangar. Be careful. Then again..............if the nut came off, it has a hole in it and will just bleed air or fluid thru that hole.

If you can buy the new parts from the mfg. and the inside is not scored, I can get you oring replacement for a few dollars here in Conroe. But I understand no hurry now.
