Backup Camera to hook up trailer

/ Backup Camera to hook up trailer #22
I purchased one of the Peak products. Has about 3.5" screen. It does a great job for back up to trailers. I hardly ever have to move my vehicle after backing. Before camera, I had get out numerous times if not lucky. I have my receiver inside of truck attached with 2 sided velcro to back window. No issues after 1 year of use. Good product.

auto zone has one has anyone tried it?

Yep. We got the cheaper (small monitor) of the two license plate mount wireless cameras...about $80-$90 IIRC. I decided to hook the camera power up to the wiring going to the license plate lights so I could look at the hitch while driving down the road if I wanted to. It has worked fine for about seven months, four of which I was pulling one or two travel trailers per day.

I put the suction cup style monitor mount in a cup holder when in use and in my console when it's not being used.

It does the job fine and didn't break the bank.

All good info. Keep it coming.

I like the magnetic mount, but I'm afraid I'll forget about it and loose it somewhere on the road.

Perhaps I'll end up with a license plate mount.

Sorry for not seeing the previous thread. I did try searching before I started this one :)

I got a license plate one at BJs a few years ago for (I think) $59.xx with a $15 mail in rebate.
Not for hooking up the trailer, but for watching the horses inside it.
It is the wireless one and has a couple of plastic wedge washers to adjust the aim.
It transmits well through the aluminum head wall, then about 14ft of air, the aluminum front of the trailer nose, another 5ft or so of air, then the (venetian blind type, also aluminum) slat shade of the headache rack, then the cab's rear window.

For actually hooking up the trailer those brightly colored plastic sticks with magnets on the bottom can't be beat for price. Probably simplicity and effectiveness too.
The cheapo solution for gooseneck trailers is a toilet plunger over the ball, just tap it to the coupler tube until it falls and you're THERE !

C'mon, your neighbors already KNOW that Ya can't back up to your trailer.
Do you REALLY THINK a little hidden camera is going to convince them otherwise ?

I really don't care what the neighbors thing. I hook up to a trailer on average, 2x per week. Been doing that for many years and I am pretty good at it, but I really am tired of getting out of the truck more than once.

I love backing up to a trailer where the guy helping/giving direction doesn't know I have a camera... has been quite fun... ask them, my left or theirs... and pull right up to the ball!!!

I haven't used the Peak ones, but you can get the 2.4" for $36 or the 3.5" for $90 at Advance Auto if you use the coupon codes listed here:
Peak 2.4" Wireless Backup Camera System

For $36 it might be worth trying the 2.4" one.

I have not read this entire thread, so someone may have already answered this question? How would a Backup camera work on a front loader with pallet forks. We cannot easily see the forks as they slide into the pallet. Would some of these devices hold up under extreme outside weather conditions on the from nose of the tractor? I know the ones I have looked at say "weather resistant" and am assuming that is for the camera. What can the display screen take? Ken Sweet
