Bad buying experience

My JD dealer treats me well even though I am a small customer for him and his 8 mechanics keep the work orders moving quickly. I would not take it too personal, but I would have a one on one conversation with he owner or manager before you make the final transaction. If they cannot take care of you before the sell, doing it afterward will be unlikely. Just my opinion on any dealer and brand.

This is big farm country here where I am at..One of our local John Deere dealers sells more Combines than any other dealer in the US.. and my best friend bought the 500,000th John Deere combine. He got trips to Moline and just went back last week to speak to a group. He is JD through and through. He is on their website some place doing a interview. Plus my father was a John Deere dealer when I was a kid. I always lusted for a 140 with triple hydrolics.

One of our local Kubota dealers is a total tool..and the other is a decent enough guy.All the BObcat, Kioti, Yanmar Cub dealers are a good distance away and wanted more money to trade..

ya, i agree it all depends on the salesman......hes the make it or break it for their sales.

the thing that pissed me off, this dealership knows me... by name.

i bought my last unit from them, and all my parts. but they treated me like i didn't exist when i was looking for a cab unit.

i guess they thought i wasn't serious.

Problem they always make is assuming you have no money or credit..

I have learned you just never know what a man has by what he wears..

The aforementioned experiences are why I didn't consider a JD for more than an afternoon. No tractors on the lot and salesmen who seemed annoyed at my questions and were more concerned about the Kubota quote than giving me any sort of price. One dealers answer was simply "no" when I asked about a 2320 TLB. I hung up.

My local John Deere has treated my like I was the biggest customer they had. Just today I stopped in to see if my ballast box had arrived and was going to pickup a gallon of pre-mix antifreeze to top off the tractor (was less than a pint or so low). He said the box was going to be late cause he ordered a box extension by mistake and he said a new tractor should not have been low and gave me the anti-freeze, then told me I could have the ballast box extension and apologized for the error. The box would be here on monday. At this point I would feel guilty if I shopped anywhere else. :)

The guys at my local JD are a great bunch!

However, the dealership owner's are very disinclined to "deal" in a realistic manner given the Internet and the competition of a wide open marketplace!

They'll only go so far - 7.5% below the MSRP - and no further... So, my last 3 purchases were with dealer's that were THOUSANDS of miles away!

I feel badly 'cause the local guys are always looking for ways to save me a few bucks on parts, oil, etc. But, I've shown them - "dollar for dollar" - the difference between settling for the price in their shop versus buying elsewhere.

They'd do the same thing if it were a new car or truck or their own tractor!

Sometimes you just "gotta do, what ya gotta do"....

I must say I also have had bad experiences at the JD dealer. I always felt since I wasn't buying a 70k tractor I wasn't worth there time. I have had to deal with this even when buying parts for my lx176. I got tired of it and went down the road and bought my Kubota bx24 to replace the JD. Up until that point I had owned 2 JD's and never thought about owning anything other than green. But you know, I sure like that orange. Shines nice in the sun light! I do suspect if the JD dealer wouldn't have been so put off by my questions I would still bleed green. Oh well the Kubota dealer is only 2 miles further away. Oh yeah, I'll be selling that 176 this year.....

I told him that was unsat and he told me I could cancel the deal if I wanted?? Are tractors selling so good they can turn customers away??

I'd cancel the deal (then buy a Kubota).

Just so it doesn't seem like this turns into a Deere bashing thread, I would like to say that my local small town JD dealer is a super nice guy and more than willing to deal. The only problems I had was nothing on the lot, the 8% SC sales tax, and the comparable Deere was still higher than the Kubota.

None of which are his fault. If and when I get ready to trade, I will stop and see him again. And I'll probably buy my service stuff from him since he sells the orange tractors as well.

If you're in the area and shopping, Pageland Hardware is good people:)
