On that broke camera,if it's a digital there is a tiny switch on the side of the sd card that is for over write protection and easily slid to the off position when inserting the card in the camera. It's a tiny grey section on the side of the card where it appears there is a seam.I was about ready to give up on my game camera until I called customer service and was told about this. Hope this helps.

Thank You James.
Took card out flipped switch & had to flip it back again. Then camera started working. Strange!!!
Now I can take some more dumb pictures, that show my mistakes.

Good to hear you won the wrestling match with that tractor tire, Jim. When I struggle like that, the victory tastes even sweeter. But getting an important tool like the tractor going again is the real reward. BTW, the clapped out Kubota I have here is ten years old, too. You wouldn't believe the stuff I've had to fix on it. Here's a shot of one of the under designed loader mounts:

FELMountBrokenSide.jpg

Was in town yesterday myself. Had some "samples" to drop off at the test lab, and learned I'll get to do it again because of their screw up. Dropped off the recycling, too, and even remembered to put my big trash can back into the truck. Disposall started leaking last week, so had to buy another one of those, too. When I asked the salesman if this one would last longer than seven years, he just shrugged his shoulders. Had an InSinkErator at the last house that lasted more than twice that, but I guess I should be happy this one outlived the three year warranty.

Celebrated my return from the big town by watching "Gran Torino" last night. Ol' Clint plays a great curmudgeon. Maybe I'll get Grumpy Old Men out for tonight. Gonna need it: I hate plumbing!

You sir, have just got my attention-2 of my favorite movies-Gran Torino and Grumpy Old Men. Still get a little misty when Pop dies in Grumpier Old Men. A trick I learned on garbage disposals, run a little veggie or corn oil thru them a couple times a month. For some reason, it helps keep them loose. Mine is nearing 20 years old and still kicking. But then again, they do not make stuff like they used to.

And keep the forks out! Had a garbage disposal at my last house and had it apart at least 3 times in 2 years because a fork mysteriously appeared ???

I definitely agree with the movie choices. Just watched Grumpy Old Men weekend before last.

Got the disposall swapped out and guess what I found on the old one? A 2" crack in the plastic  housing. Maybe one of your forks did it in, Mike, but I don't remember hearing any loud noises.

disposallCrack.jpg

The new one looks to be the same construction as the old one with a fat noise damping housing around the outside and a hundred dollar fancier price tag. Just to make sure it doesn't screw up the cabinet when it leaks, I slipped a plastic painter's bucket over the bottom and wired it in place. Hopefully next time the fool thing'll pop the breaker before the bucket runs over.

I also like Michael Douglas in "Falling Down" in that genre. "Will Penny" is another good 'un.

Now back to Jim's regularly scheduled Black Rock programming...

Well, made it to town & back.
Got 100lb bird seeds, 100lb dog seeds, people seeds & 90 beers. Hopefully that is done for at least 3 weeks or longer.

Treated myself to breakfast on the way to town & who should I meet. "Tire Man Rich", he's older than I am, a little taller & just as skinny. Had not sen him in about 3 years & sort of though he might be dead or really retired. Nope he still has a used tire & tire repair shop. Hi place is somewhat out of the way, if you don't know how to get there, you can't find it. His place is about 15 miles south east of me, off a road that you would think goes some place but doesn't. He also has 2 or 3 old tractors.

Sure would have been a lot easier to go see him & help him fix the tractor tire. OH well, I got her done.

Today move some more dirt, unless the left front tire has gone to he!!. It sounded like it was blowing wind on the way home.

More boredom later
Jim

More boring BS, all true of course.
Been moving dirt on the road at my friends house. It's the No2 road in & out of this area, with quite a bit of traffic. So I can only work on about 1/2 of it at a time. If I had a small to medium tracked Cat I would be done by now. With my little 45 horse & the back hoe it is slow going. Digging out the high spots & putting it in the low places. Road needs to be fairly level for about 100 yards. As it was even a small rain made a big lake in front of his driveway. Also will need to have some crushed gravel hauled in. Will try to get a picture tomorrow if I work on it then.

Found the lost forge pictures. On the forge are the 2 tire spoons & a hook that is almost finished. You can also see the little vacuum hooked up. The pile of Coal was in a wash tub, that has rusted away, just a few small areas left.

Not sure everyone believed me on the Quail coming in to feed. Took some pictures this AM. Close up has 13 in it. More in the other pictures & if you look close you can see more coming in to feed. They are about 10 feet away.

Jim

Somewhere on here is the whole story, but to make it short I welded it up twice and both times it cracked again, in spite of preheating and post weld heat treating. A couple of guys wrote to say they had the same problem, so it wasn't a case of abusing the equipment. When a friend showed me pictures of his mounts, I saw that Kubota had redesigned them, greatly increasing the thickness. I pressed my dealer for a "good will" replacement, which the Kubota area rep reluctantly agreed to, but I still got stuck for something like $600 in charges. So far the new parts are holding up, and I got a few bucks back at the junk yard for the old ones. Kubota makes great Diesel engines, but I'm not too impressed with the rest of their handy work.

I've got a fair number of quail around here, too. I love the way they call to each other, and how one will act as lookout while the others feed. I don't put anything out for them, but the pictures you shared sure make it look like fun to do so. Your quail look plump and happy! How did you get them started on coming in to the feed without scaring them away?

A couple of times now the oxy/acetylene hasn't been enough heat to let me forge a part or two, so I suppose at some point I'll be looking to build a forge. That looks like a nice one in your pictures. Don't have a clue as to where to find coal, though. Wouldn't be surprised if it's highly regulated in Kalifornia! ;)
