Question for the lab folks,
Most labs that I have seen are rather husky.
Riley is far from husky & never will be. Are some labs slim???

We had 2 labs, both good size (yellow) labs. One was husky, about 75lbs. They can be stocky, sturdy dogs. The other was taller, a little on the slim side.

English and American labs:
English

ENGLISH (show/confirmation)..
Labs are usually very close to the Lab Breed Standard per AKC. These are usually the type Labs you see in the Show ring. They are basically the heavier bone frame, with a much squarer head. Therefore the term being referred to as "Blocky & Stocky" build,. the thick "otter" tail; wonderful temperament, and are low-key, (less hyper), just overall, very calm natured. They are a wonderful to live with, eager to please, ready to play. This is the type we have...

Field OR American (for hunting/field trials)...
Field Labs tend to be taller, finer boned, a very high energy level referred to as "drive" . Their head / skull is more streamlined/ Longer than square. Tail is usually medium to skinny and longer in appearance. They can go ALL day. They tend to chew more. They are great if you are into hunting, field trials, or have a super active lifestyle, but as a "house" dog, I personally think they are way to hyper for such.

Hmm, I don't know what that would make my lab. She is a bit over a year old but is not as tall or as thick as most labs. Her head is on the sleeker side. She is really energetic when she wants to be and it's amazing how fast she is. Sometimes she just runs full tilt around our fenced in dog area. On the flip side of the coin she loves people and attention but does not jump around on them. She really is a sweet pooch.

Her momma had a more square head and was heavier. I don't know what the dad looked like.

Thanks Guys for the information, much appreciated.

Riley & little Boy sure have fun together. Chasing each other, boxing, wrestling, & a little snuggling.
She seems to have a little more stamina than he does.
Both are pains in the butt. But even pains need love. :D

Jim been close to a month since your last post.

1. Did the dogs put you in the fenced yard ?
2. Thieves get your computer. ?
3. Or did the cute waitress at the service center get you attention?

Maybe decided to take a vacation away from the daily activities.

Here the weather has been lousy and still 20 degree cooler than wish for. the rain has kept those who put in a garden have been delayed for over 2 weeks.

Decided since weather was bad be a good time to repair my 4520 John Deere which after 2 attempts to get fixed under warranty and still was locked in 4 whl. drive and fuel gauge read low fuel .

Bought a repair book 150 bucks
separated the clutch housing and rear end to get to 4 wheel shift area and found that a shift shoe to select the desired function had worn to 1/2 of proper size. If you ever used a Gravely garden tractor it is same engineering no change in 50 years of engineering. Except now costs 56 bucks +shipping.

The fuel sender after 2 attempts under warranty was leaking fuel due to cross threading of retainer cap and loose in seating.
sender also was open reading could not work if seated proper. purchase new for only 76 bucks.

All this still cheaper than JD wanting 85 and hour for 2 men approximate 20 hours.
Still would of had to purchase the parts.
So today will be finished rebuilding and just in time to start bush hogging the fields. and in spare time to plant the garden .

Just checking on how your doing .ken

Hi ken & all,

Sort of though about letting this tread die. Lot of water under the bridge since my last post.

Getting hot broke a 100 (101) a couple days ago. Not much cooling at night either. Wind has eased up a little.

2 Rattlers so far this year & 3 friendlies.

Hard to be a Hermit. Grandson came to live with me, there went my piece & quite.
Some cons & some pros. More cons than pros. Haven't killed him yet.

Little Boy & Riley got out after about 4 days she came back. Pretty sure something permanent & bad happened to Little Boy.miss the big old slug.

Got another dog, dumbest dog in the county, No name, semi responds to Dog when hie chooses. Noh he & Riley are going out. Fixed the fence many - many times, they just find a new way. He is a black & white Australian Sheppard. No one ever taught him anything.

More if later if any one is interested.
Jim

Don't let this thread die. There are many of us interested in the desert way of living.

I have spent some time in your neck of the woods. Few years back we had a contract with IHS, and did quite a bit of work at all of the reservations out that way. Made several trips from Tuscon to Sells. The area interests me!
