I've been in branches of three different banks in the last six weeks or so. Interestingly, the only one I've had trouble with was the fanciest, most elaborate and without a doubt most expensive of the three.

Bank is mere steps away from work and with property management it makes it convenient. Plus, there have been times when work sent me for change.

PS. I had the last pager in the division... Reason being it worked at home where there is no cell service... It worked anywhere and everywhere which has not been the case with cell.

Haven’t lived in the same city as my bank in over 15years (USAA) Why do I need to go inside a bank?

I feel bad for the poor self-checkout companies some on this thread are trying to put out of a job... terrible.

Do the self service registers work for returns?

I was at Lowe’s today and went to a regular checkout line and after waiting for the poor lady trying to ring up a bunch of stupid nails for the guy in front of me I left and went to the self checkout line and was done on a fraction of the time. Lowe’s has a stupid policy of selling any fasteners not in a box individual. Grap a handful of bolts, nuts, washers, lock washers, and then you aren’t sure of the size so you repeat the process you better bring your lunch. Most other places sell by weight and are done in seconds.

I do all of my banking with mobile apps. Does everything including deposits (except govt checks and some others which go in the atm).

I would shop online and pickup at the store 99% of the time if these retail people would figure it out. Then I don't even need self checkout!

Would never work for me. Nice to have options. Depending upon the item, I prefer to examine and see the quality before I purchase them.

How do you get cashier's checks, wire escrow funds, get bulk coins for change, foreign currency never stepping inside a bank?

One of the properties I managed has a coin laundry... I was forever rolling quarters for deposit after they took out the coin counter...

Again... the banks here often have armed guards such as BofA and Wells Fargo... all have plexiglass in the lobby and some like Chase you can only enter by being buzzed in through two sets of doors...

When the banks started accepting check deposits via cell phone I thought OK... this is great... my joy was short lived as I learned there was a daily limit and dollar amount limit per checks... no way was I going to be able to deposit rent roll checks using one of these apps...

I dont use self check out, Im not a store employee nor do I get paid for pretending to be one.
The 2 x I used it at home depot, the machine went bonkers and had to be fixed in the middle of a lot of purchases.
I waited for 15 minutes until they figured it out and fixed what was wrong with it.
No more for me...

Happens a lot and the stores do not have an on site IT person. The wait can stretch out. Five minutes and I leave the cart in line and walk out. One time when I walked out 5 more joined me. If I need it bad enough I will go to the competition or come back when I can.

Well said.....
That is precisely why I do not use self checkouts. For me it has nothing to do with using an automatic payment or anything like that. It has everything to do with the retailer not giving me a discount for scanning my own items that I am purchasing. Give me something off to make up for the labor they aren't paying and I would do it. Until then I will get someone to ring me out.

Then they charge me for carpenter pencils and blue buckets for me to do their advertising, They should be free; used to be years ago.

I too have walked out leaving a full cart... not something I am proud of but when schedule is tight what can you do... twenty registers and only two cashiers.

One of the managers said they are actively hiring but can't find people that can pass drug and background for wages offered and it is worse now with legal pot...

I have gravitated more to the trade supply houses for plumbing, electrical and irrigation plus traditional lumber yards.

Never happens in my Lowes. You bag it put down the stock # and qty. Checker takes your word for it. They do that on a lot of multiple items. If I am in the Contractor/lumber area and I need 100 landscape blocks along with the cement, rebar, and other items there are close by; i have them call garden and have them bring down on a pallet while they are palatalizing my cement and others. Checker looks at the hand written slips with skew and qty and inputs it, Customer service like that is worth money to me. Pick up a cart full of 2X4s they ask me how many and enter the multiplier. And my lumber is not soaking wet.

Of course they know me as I am a regular. I do all my special orders at the Pro Desk or at the department heads desk, pick them up when they come in. Damaged order, they check it before I get it. Less hassle than home delivery. If what you all are saying is factual I guess this is about to all go away at my store, then so will I.

Price inflations... China surcharge is what many call it here...

Friend was remodeling and got material quotes... by the time they acted there prices were higher due to increased tariffs... checked prices and all had gone up...

Guess it is only natural considering how much is imported.

They take your word for the amount but every piece has a different price. Most places just weigh the whole bag of bolts.

Separate skus allow inventory control and stock order development by keystroke verified by stocking audits. Bulk sales by weight requires order development and inventory control by humans doing physical bin checks.
I used to have to manually manage an extensive hardware inventory, it is a giant PIA to do well.

^^^ If a store sells 1,000 pounds of bulk (unidentified) hardware in a month, how do they know which bins to refill? When I buy from a couple of chain stores by weight, it isn't even classified as nuts, bolts or washers, let alone by diameter or thread count.

Just like I said, they have to do a physical bin check. Which is exactly what I said above. There is less labor involved in inventory management when individual skus are maintained AT THE POINT OF SALE as opposed to bulk sales.

But more packaging. I hate those little hang bags with 3 or 4 1/8 washers. The individual tags on the mid sized stuff get damaged to where they won't scan. And the bag it yourself stuff where you write the numbers in .... I have trouble where idiots (shoppers or clerks) put the stuff in the wrong bins. Then I have to try to figure out where it should have been to get the right number.
