Nice piece of property! You really DO NEED the Roadmaster to grade that road. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Aerial Photos!

Wen, that old picture was made when we had been here just over two months. The prior owner had a little 15'x50' garden right behind the house, and I used it for a couple of years, but it's just lawn now. A newer picture might show a separately fenced garden area. The basic garden is now 83'x103' and the grandkids' little melon patch is about 25'x105'. And tomorrow we're going to have to wade in the mud because the squash, cucumbers, and green beans have to be picked or they'll be too big to be any good. My brother and his wife are coming to help, so we'll see how many carrots, bell peppers, cabbage, onions, and potatoes we can get in and stored, too. I've got some big green tomatos now, but none showing any signs of ripening yet./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Where in the world (or Commonwealth of Virginia) is Grafton? I don't find that in my big road atlas.

Bird, can't you read? What did the map say - 6 miles NE of where I live, didn't it? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Actually, I have no idea where Grafton is. I was surprised to see that on the map, too. I've heard people refer to it, and I've heard it mentioned on NOAA weather alerts, but I've never seen a sign or heard anyone say specifically where it is. I think it's one of those places that's on a USGS map somewhere, so everybody who doesn't know anything about the area knows where it is, and the only locals who do are the ones who've lived there 50 years or more.

Wen - I told you I needed a better road grading tool. I could be an excellent "in the field" tester of their products. And it needs it even more right now than it usually does, after those storms yesterday.

BTW, Bird, you might find Cash in your Atlas, which is a crossroads a couple hundred yards from where my driveway connects with Hwy 198. Back up 198 5 miles to the west is Glenns, a mile or downriver is Freeport, and 5 miles east on 198 is Harcum. If none of those are in your atlas, you're on your own.

My place is in the center of the map the T cut into the woods my land is all woods. It extends down out of the picture to the south and goes to the drainage ditch on the right. I love it but my wife wants to clear alittle more so she can have a lawn--bla--.http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp?S=11&T=1&X=1099&Y=10825&Z=18&W=1 Its 43 acres of woods and a 16 acre woodlot. I want to buy the land to the right of the drainage ditch two parcels but they don't want to sell but they said I have first rights as long as I don't subdivide it.

Mark, are you sure you're in Virginia? My old 1993 Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas doesn't list any of those places./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif And I thought if it listed Frost, TX (population 579), it would have just about every town. However, I see it doesn't have Irene, TX, where my phone service comes from, and it doesn't show Brushie Prairie, TX, which is the nearest "community" to me.

Mark, I did think it was odd that yours shows a distance from Grafton, which I can't find on a map, and mine shows a distance from Dallas when there are a half dozen good sized towns between here and there.

Re: JimBinMI Estate, ha ha!

Wen,

OK, after Bird posted the website the other day, I looked for awhile but didn't think I had found my house. The last satellite picture is 1988 and the house was built, by others, in 1987-88. After your prodding I looked awhile longer, after spending quality time with my NH TC18 and Woods mower and putting on some weed & feed!

Anyway, here it is but I don't think I saved it in hypertext, don't know how? My little 8 acres is on the bottom of this image, I sit on the west side of the only road in the photo that goes n/s. There is one property north of me before it becomes farmer's field. You can see a lot a light area around the house, wonder if there wasn't a lawn at that time? my field goes to the west and at the back it gets darker, 20 rows of scotch pines and walnut trees. Much bigger now than then. Can't see my 32 x 48 barn because it was just built last summer, can't see the swimming pool cause it was put in in 1993, can't see the movie stars cause there aren't any! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif the property has 265' of n/s frontage on the road and is 1331' deep, long rectangle.

If you recognize it while you're flying by sometime, have the pilot beep the horn! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
