What are the yamar models to stay away from?
This is a compiled list from many sources. This is posted and updated on the YTOG.
With Hoye gone and Fredricks interactive online parts finder gone, it is harder than ever to determine parts availability. HOWEVER, in the Gray Market arena, vintage Yanmar models tend to shine with the most support over others.

Models To Avoid Based On Parts Availability – Hoye and then Fredrick's
Updated January 2015
Source: Hoye Tractor Website (now gone)
Parts availability has nothing to do with Gray market, US market, or how long a tractor has been out of production. The single key to buying a tractor that will have long lasting parts availability is finding a tractor that either:
A. Was enormously popular
B. Shares a lot of parts with a popular model or lot of other models.
- Has a domestic US Yanmar model sibling.
- Has a domestic US John Deere model sibling in JD green.
Before we list the worst let's list the BEST. This is my list of the BEST 8 models to buy based on parts availability & durability (My personal opinion... in no order). [note: Hoye's picks are mostly 2-cylinder engines, thus these are loud when running. Also see Fredrick's listing below.]
Best Models To Buy
YM1500 YM1500D
YM1700 YM1700D
YM195 YM195D
YM2000 YM2000D (twin to the YM240)
YM2210 YM2210D ** If I had to be dropped on an island with just one tractor - this would be it. Simple, powershift, & built like a tank. If you break this tractor it is your own fault!
YM240 YM240D
YM3110 YM3110 - non-power steering (only 3-cly on this list)
YM336 YM336D - non-power steering
MODELS TO AVOID
YM177 - no chance of getting parts - very rare model - no sharing
YM350 - Korean market model - no chance of getting parts
YM455 - Korean market model - no chance of getting parts
YM270 - Less than 1,000 made
YM273 - no chance of getting parts - very rare model - very limited sharing, only 2,000 made
YM1110 - very limited chance of getting parts - very rare model - no sharing
YM4200 & other tractors over 45 horsepower- Very few ever imported because of the cost to ship them here - only a couple will fit into a container at a time compared with 12-20 smaller tractors. No sharing of parts, very rare in the USA. YM5000 & YM6000 share with Deere 1250, 1450 and 1650.
YM2200 & YM2700- Does not share parts with anything else. It is a popular tractor though so parts availability is getting better & it will probably be taken off this list once a few more key parts get reproduced. Key parts like a cylinder head, intake & exhaust valves, and connecting rods are very hard to find. They are no longer sold new and are very expensive as a used part... if you can find them.
Newer 3 digit "F" series tractors like F195, F395, etc. These are still very new to the US and there are no operation manuals or service manuals for them. Parts availability is VERY limited at this time. It will probably get better but it could still be many years before the parts supply starts to catch up. WARNING- These tractors are loaded with very complex electronics and are almost completely computer controlled. For example, the three point lever on most of these models is now even computer controlled! With no English service manuals or wiring diagrams we have a hard time recommending these tractors to anyone but adventurous electronic engineers :). The great thing about the Yanmar tractors has always been that the average Joe with a test light, torque wrench, and a service manual could fix just about anything on the tractor. This is no longer true starting with the introduction of the F series models. They are very complex (compared to the YM series) machines.
Fredrick's Importing 02/08/2020
YANMAR TRACTORS BY FREDRICKS EQUIPMENT

Our quality process — which is all completed at our facility in Hartselle, Alabama — ensures that each tractor we sell will provide years of reliable service for the user. Our Yanmar tractors will help you get the job done, whether big or small, for a great price. We've worked hard over the years to refine our product and process. We think you'll like what you get.
Best Models To Buy
00-Series
The 00 Series tractors were originally manufactured between 1975 and 1978, with "B" models following in 1979. Nearly all 00 Series models have two cylinder engines, except the YM2500 and YM3000 models with three cylinder engines. They all have traditional gear drive transmissions and feature the simplicity and easy-to-use nature of a classic utility tractor. Yet no live PTO
YM1500 YM1500D
YM1700 YM1700D
YM2000 YM2000D
YM2000B
YM2500 (nearest clone to a John Deere, model 850)
01 & 10 Series
The 01 and 10 Series models were manufactured in 1980 and 1981, with the exception of the 2210, which was manufactured earlier in 1977 and 1978. The 01 models are standard gear transmission tractors. However, the 10 models all feature Powershift: a fully mechanical range selection with powershift on the front end, which allows selection between three forwards, neutral, and reverse through hydraulically actuated clutch packs for an incredibly robust powertrain. The power shift on these models are all located on the platform, between the user's feet (near the transmission speed selector).
YM1610 YM1610D
YM2210 YM2210D
YM2310 YM2310D
YM2610 YM2610D (shares common basic features of the YM2500 and John Deere model 850)
02 & 20 Series
The 02 and 20 series Yanmar tractors were originally manufactured in 1982 and 1983. These tractors show improvements in weight, size, and other features, with the same Yanmar Diesel engine at the core. Just like the 01 series, you'll find that the 02 tractors have a standard gear transmission. The 20 series, like the 10 series models, all have Powershift transmissions with one noticeable difference: the Powershift lever is on the column, rather than on the platform, giving you additional ease-of-use and better access.
YM1720 YM1720D with factory power steering
YM2420 YM2420D
F & FX Series
The F and FX series tractors (also known as Forte and Super Forte, respectively) are the most recent Yanmars in our selection, having been manufactured in 1984 and 1985. These models feature spacious open platform designs, so you can easily get off and on the tractor. All of the controls are moved to the console and the fenders, leaving plenty of room for your feet. The FX models, like the 10 and 20 models, feature Powershift, with the control mounted on the fender. Additional features include added weight, feature-rich instrument clusters, three and four cylinder engines, and electronic fuel shutoff.

What are the yamar models to stay away from?
And what models to consider . . .

Additionally, from what Yanmar Gray Market owners have seen, The popular engines are the 3T80 and 3T84 for support. Both are used in the Deere 50, 55, 70 and 90 series along with the Deere Fairway mowers.

The support for engines ending in 70, 72, 75, and 82 have been difficult finding parts, but not totally impossible, yet the research and wait times can take months and up to a year. On person with a YM2020 looked high and low for a simple head gasket for 9 whole months.

* NOTE: Yanmar made many of the YM2310. It has the popular 3T84 engine. Shares with the Yanmar domestic engines and the Deere engines, along with the Komatsu and other excavator bands. For 3 cylinder YM machines, all the models ranging from the YM2220 to the YM4220 are 3T80 and 3T84. This range of models would be the safest to focus on to buy. The few 2 cylinders in there, do avoid.

There is a YM4200. We have seen images on the Yahoo Auctions Ag website. Yet, we know thing else. Not even the engine. We guess it is a 3T84 from some of the parts suppliers linking it to the YM4220. The YM4200 shares a good deal with the FX285, FX305, FX335, and FX426 too.

I have a 3 ring binder off all the Yanmar Org. part# and models that used them. Fredricks/Hoye. Also the Ym2000 Diagrams from Hoye which I posted on here before for people that may need to look back at them since there gone. Almost 20Yrs back I had it complied. Pretty much covers all the YM,F,FX series. Fredricks almost quit importing and just purchased the Org. YM2000 so it was in my best interest to have it.
I check in often since I go back decades with Yanmar. Mother new the Org. roll over family. Bus driver for the Kid!! She was there when it happened. True! I take extra interest Since I heard all about the court case and the incident. Some of the Details are extra Disgusting that came up in court. Aunt was the courtroom secretary. ;)
