Bailing hay with a compact

I figured that is what you meant but if you ever loaded round bales (don't know if you have or not) it is so much easier having the trailer moving thru the field as you load instead of grabbing a stack of bales and driving half a mile to the wagon. But we have to make due with what we have. Ideally, we would all sell our hay in the field and not have to put any of it away /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Selling it in the field, wow, that would be great!!!

I've loaded round bales, and we used a case 2390 with a loader, and they jerked that thing around. Cant imagine trying to pick up one with a 4710, that would be nasty.....

Do most of you guys on the east side of the country not use automatic balewagons? If no, is it because of storage issues? Im finding the horse people out here love the balewagons, and have no problem buying hay that isnt barn strored or tarped (usually alfalfa).

We have to keep hay in a barn. If we didn't we would not have anything worth selling. There is too much moisture here to even think of leaving square bales outside under a tarp.

Bale wagons are used up here but only at the places set up for them. My current barns (like a lot of others) are not high enough for a bale wagon to unload. The new barn will be built to accomodate the NH bale wagon.

I've never seen a real live bale wagon. As Robert says its too wet to leave hay outside. Rounds get about 25% spoilage if they are tight bales stored on dry ground. You can tarp them in triple stacks to get much less spoilage.

Squares have to go inside, preferably in a well ventillated building with ventilated floor too.

Any new building I build will be big enough to handle any storage method thats for sure! I'm not gonna be limited by building.

My friends farm was one of the worst, we would have to unhitch each wagon, one person would grab the tongue and steer while the other push it up a dirt ramp into and accross the barn. The floor was patched up old beams over the dairy below.

We would then unload the bales out the front of the kicker wagons onto the floor and then onto the conveyor that ran up the mow face. 6000-9000 bales a year this way. Bringing the wagons out you pushed them to the door then hung on for the ride out into the field and tried not to hit anything.

I bale with a 38 hp IH 424 /NH hayliner 270/with 16 foot haywagon on a rolling hay field. I have no problems baling and loading the hay wagon with up too 130 bales of hay. when not moving to does move the tractor but not enough to worry about. old is not bad its cheaper then buying new and uses less fuel.
