Baling hay with 39 horses

The price is already having it's affect...

Production is increasing where feasible and livestock is diminishing due to rising costs...

I'm really in a huge urban area and there are lots of free to good home or low cost horses being offered... never really have seen this before.

In the old days a unwanted horse always had value at the rendering plant... now, at least here, it costs money if you have no means of disposal...

Yep... some of the problem came about when "well-meaning but woefully misguided" folk's decided that it was a horrible, inhumane situation that horse's should be sold for slaughter (American Quarter Horse Association was a significant party to this decision..) and for the past several year's people have been dumping unwanted horses, burros, donkey's and mules out in the countryside!

The state of the national economy was a major reason many people could no longer afford the luxury of owning a horse but combined with the outlawing of horse slaughter and rendering facilities the past several year's have been a sad state of affairs for horse people - nationwide.

There have been reports within the last year or so of people with horses they can't afford to keep just dumping them on remote rangeland. Some apparently have shown up in the national forests.

We mow (9' Mower Conditioner), rake (18' 4 basket tedder and a rollbar rake) and bale (with a kicker on the baler and a wagon behind that) using a Kubota L3830. It could use some front weights sometimes and is a little light when you get a full load of hay, but it is adequate for the job.

Our state parks, where you can ride count them coming in and again when they leave. There were instances where people would go in and dump them.
