PA, the additive is Power Service Diesel 911, which actually came with the tractor. Based on the bottle's recommended dosage, it's likely the same product that's in the "standard" PS additive, just with a different label. I'm sure what's left in the bottle (90%) will last me several years. The primary function of this and similar products is to prevent "gelling" of the fuel, but it sounds like your F350 may have other issues unrelated to gelling that are causing hard starting. I drained the engine oil tonight, which is the first time for this machine (boy were those drain plugs tight). The manual said the factory fill is 15W40 and I believe it -- it was really thick, even though it was 23 degrees. I'm putting in 5W40 synthetic which should make a huge difference in how it starts and gets the oil circulating through the engine when it's cold.

If I recall correctly the HF quick hitch top link is not adjustable. You might find it does not work with many 3pt attachments. I had one but seemed like more of a hassle unless you set up all your implements the same and with stands. I like the 3 pt trailer hitch with the large D ring on top. I use it like you said you would use the quick hitch and can move the trailers quickly.

My HF QH was purchased 12 months ago and the top HOOK is adjustable via several drilled holes. The only issue I had with it was the top hook needed an extension to make it project further back as some of my implements top attachment point would bind in the hook due to a lack of clearance between the implement and the QH frame. It was a very easy fix and has worked nicely ever since.

Re: Ballast box receiver to tow logs with chain & grapple?

Theyæ±*e all ancient tractors. Find one case involving a modern tractor with a loader. Nobody warns about the dangers of driving your truck to work or taking little Jonny to the swimming pool, but mention drilling a hole in a ROPS or pretty much anything involving a tractor and thereç—´ no shortage of safety police.

Im all about safety but you do have a good point. Simply driving your car on the road is probably one of the most dangerous things you can do but it's common practice so no one sees the danger as easily. I'm new to the tractor world but this summer I pulled several stumps with the 3ph on my L2501 with loader and the 3ph stalled out on a couple of them and there was no sign at all of the front tires even trying to lift. I believe at the pins my 3ph will lift 1900lbs. Maybe I just got lucky but I was carefull. I've seen on the net to weld an eye on the tongs so a chain can be attached to the tongs and draw bar. All the 3ph does is lift he front of the log off the ground and the actual pulling force comes from the draw bar. Makes sense to me

I personally don’t believe you got lucky. The old tractors had big tall back tires designed for maximum pulling force and a light front end. Flipping over backwards was quite likely with a improper hook. Adding a loader and shrinking the back tires like modern compact tractors have done and it’s very unlikely to get enough traction to flip over backwards. Add a box blade on the 3 point hitch and it’s impossible even if you hooked at the top of the roll bar.

Actually, the top link is adjustable, by removing two bolts. I made mine even more so, by extending it rearward, using pins instead of bolts, and adding new metal with more holes to adjust the up and down range. I also thinned out the hook a bit. Now it fits everything.

You are correct. Mine was the TSC hitch.

I stand corrected. What I typed was not what I was thinking. And you are correct that the 3-pt will ride up. On our old Ford the 3-pt will put downforce on an implement if it is set correctly. It actually has two control levers side by side, one for draft control and the other for position control. I had it in mind when I typed that. My little Kioti puts no downforce on an implement.

This is what happens when you stop to eat a snack and answer a post without considering everything.

You must STILL be eating snacks...

"Draft" position DOESN'T put down force on the 3 point... At least, that's what your post implies...

As I understood it with my old IH2500b:

Draft control will raise the implement out of the soil if the rear tires start spinning, and let it down again as the spininng resides. Mine did this by sensing a push on the rock shaft by the 3pt top link.

Position control will limit how far down the 3pt arms will drop.

There is no power down on the 3pt hitch. It's all gravity.

Has anyone considered using some type of ground sled to set the log on and dragging it? I recall seeing somewhere of this cone shaped implement/ device to allow the log to ride over ground obstructions.

To add to the discussion about tipping tractors, it’s plain to see the physics when observing where the pull force is originating from. The 3ph & draw bar is literally pulling from the axle area or immediately aft of it which makes for a very short fulcrum.

Yes, don't pull above the rear axle. The fact is the log's weight (that part not on the ground) is being carried by the top of the carryall - that is a technical no-no. However, unless you hit a stump with the log it is unlikely that you are putting too much pull up too high to be a safety problem, with the log you are carrying there. Please just be aware of the potential problem and use care.
