ballast resistor / coil x-ref chart

I used to have a link to a gmvehicle chart that showed what value ballast resistor matched what ignition coil.. also listed years used and ohm value.

I have misplaced it.. anyone know of a link to similar? Even a mopar one may work, as I noticed many of the ohm values totaled 2.8 - 3.2 On a wide range of applications.

You're right about the resistance values. I recently upgraded a frok truck from 6 to 12 volt and replaced the coil. First I tried a coil with out included resister and managed to burn it up. Then I went to a coil that did not require an external resistor and all is well. Why not just change coils. I used coils from 70 vintage Ford Falcon's because they were the cheapest about $11 at Advance Auto. Makes wiring much simplier.

I pretty much always use NAPA IC14SB.. a true 12v coil.. 3 ohm.. etc.. However.. I'd like to get my hands back on that cross-ref chart cause it had all the values of ballast resistors.. resitor R# and what gm coils they matched.. also convieniently gave me the coil ohm values.

I occasionally do custom ignition coil based projects.. and having a chart of coils helps me choose one for my voltage range without using a balalst resistor.. I.E. .. I drop supply voltage to match the coil instead of using a high supply voltage, and a coil, and a ballast.. as the extra power is just disipated as heat.. etc..
