Now that I've finally decided to purchase a 2210, I'm trying to determine if I need Bar or Turf tires.

As mentioned in a previous post, I'll be mowing 2.5 acres weekly on mostly flat land with a few minor hills and bushhogging 3.5 acres in an open field about 6 times a year.

I suspect either tire would work well in snow or with the FEL.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I went with turfs on my 2210 and sometimes I regret it. Traction can be a problem. I would consider going to R4s, espeically when you are in the field pulling that cutter.

I have turfs on my 2210 and love them. when traction is a problem (rarely) just engage MFWD. I have had no problem in snow or with loader operation. You have made a good decision on purchasing the 2210. It is a great machine! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I echo the R-4 Industrial echo. Though I have turf's, the problem I have with them is when I go into the north 40 with them, they fill up with dirt, then when I go back onto my main property, they throw dirt everywhere. I understand the HDAP tires are even worse. Anyway, another poster who I have communicated with, just about has me convinced to get an extra set of rims and the R-4's. He claims that I'll be fast getting rid of the turfs. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Will the Bar tires tear up my finished lawn (on the 2.5 acres)?

Thanks for the comments to date.

I have the R4s and don't have any problems unless I spin the tires like on the slopes or loader work. The only time you see the foot print is in dirt and that being when it's soft. Of course the TN clay gets pretty hard when dry. I had the HDAP and they held the dirt really well until I put it in the garage /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
The R4's shed the dirt well once you start driving around.

I also mow about 2.5 acres and I haven't had any problems with the r4's tearing up the lawn. I think they get alot more
bite when doing loader work. I dont think it matters for the snow. I know Deere is just now coming out with a couple of
new loader designs for the 2210. Check it out before you buy.

The first 50 hrs. have been a blast. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

What kind of loader changes?

Don't get R1s. They lose traction more easily than turf and then start digging. Only place they'll possibly be better would be in mud. That's the only time I have trouble with turfs (always in 4wd) on my 4010.

Bout ready to change to my dual turfs on the Gravely. It's dug too many holes in the gravel on the way up my hill. When it starts digging pulling my cart, the only solution is to get off and walk beside it. You dig a hole and then it's high center. This says a lot about getting a tractor with more clearance.

I'd say that R4s are the best all around.

I had the pleasure of “test” owning a set of turfs for a month and a half. My CUT was ordered with R4, but showed up with turfs. The R4s were finally installed two weeks ago. With the turfs on I cleared out an old, matted together wood pile (15 yards), removed another 20 yards of natural sand out of the side of a hill, and pulled a 4 “BB through the woods to make fire breaks. When the R4s showed up, I harvested/moved another 5 or so yards of the sand. My soil is predominately sand; woods have a heavy layer of decomposed leaves and such. My observations: the turfs worked surprisingly well; a lot less slippage than expected, especially with the FEL work. Absolutely no issues when pulling the BB. It took a lot of effort (4wd and tight turns) to leave marks on the grass with the turfs. My R4 will leave tracks much easier and are prone to dig holes a lot quicker when you do spin wheels (like when digging stumps). Seat of the pants feel is the R4s have better traction for the FEL/sand digging work---they don’t break free as quickly as the turf. Sorry, no winter use report yet. Good luck.
