I have a lawn that is generally wet most of the year. The used tractor I am looking at has bar tread tires...are they wrong? My lawn is pretty level with some gentle nolls.

Would anyone want to trade?

What you'll find is that the most "damage" that bar tires will do to your lawn is shallow imprints of the bars when the lawn is very wet... These typically go away very quickly.

PTs typically will not spin the tires (only if you're pushing hard into something like a pile of dirt), nor will they "scuff" when you turn, so a lot of the potential lawn damage that people talk about relating to "normal tractors" just simply doesn't apply...

Personally, I'd try your bar tires before you choose to get rid of them...

<font color="red"> Glad to hear that you finally reversed your wheels so that they could provide better stability, and, of course, the cool 'Wide Track' look!!

Thanks for the great feedback. If i get the unit, I will keep the bar tires.

Yeah, as others have suggested, keep them and see how they go before switching. They have their advantages and disadvantages, like everything.

Hey, speaking of tires...

Seems there are many kinds of tires...

PT offers turfs and bars.
I destroyed one of our turfs and went to TSC and picked up another one without really paying attention to the tread. I thought it was a turf, but it is less of a turf than the ones that come on the PT.

The one I got at TSC is a Carlisle TURF SAVER.
The ones that came on the tractor are more like the TURF HANDLER MULTI TRAC.

Go to their website at by clicking here and see all the different kinds of turfs they offer. Pretty interesting selection.

Right now I have 2 turf tires on the front and 2 bars on the back One of the bar tread is pointing one way and the other the other. This arrangement doesn't see to offer any difference than the old all turf setup. Just put on what appeals best to the eye and PT on.
