Tires Bar Tread versus turf tires?

/ Bar Tread versus turf tires? #11
Hi Stray, I believe that on the bar tires, the bar should point toward the front. That is the way they point on ever tractor I have ever seen, included PT.

One caution on these -- make sure you're getting at least 4-ply rated tires. That's what came on them originally. Most are 2-ply rated...

IMO, 2-ply tires do not have a strong enough sidewall to hold up on the front, where the stress of a loaded bucket ends up, along with the PT-pucker weight transfer from the rear... IMO, you need tires rated for well over 1,000 lbs of load each....

I've searched all over trying to find affordable 23x10.50x12 6-ply lug (R1) tires and cannot find any to my liking. Titan used to offer the same tread pattern that PT uses (Tru-Power) in a 6-ply, but no longer. Carlisle has Super Lugs in 6-ply, but they have many fewer lugs on them than the Tru-Powers. There is one imported tire that offers a lug in a 6-ply rating, but I've been told that they are metric sized and not really as big as the 10.50s -- more like 9.50s...

I've seen one brand of 6-ply tire in 10.50 width that is used on Ditch Witch machines, but they're outrageously priced -- $150+ per tire....

However, you can find 23x8.50x12 in 6-ply in both R1 and R4 tread patterns. It seems that some compact skidsteers use that size....

Did you check Ebay, I found hundreds of lug or bar tires. Check listings for seller TUCKERTIRE.

I have received many good deals from Ebay sellers.

Yes, I checked eBay. That's where I found the metric-sized import 6-plies.

I also emailed Tuckertire and Rustybore -- neither could get 10.50s in 6-ply, other than Carlisle Super Lugs and those imports...

I think Fourteen has bar tires. I wonder if his point forward or back with those reversed wheels. He may even have them turned them inside out. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

For small type tires I go to Ceder Rapids Tire CR Tire web page I just bought two more Titan/Carlyle Multitrac 6 plys from them ($56 ea). My PT-425 came with 2 plys. In mesquite country you can't put enough tire goo in to keep air in them. The 6 plys fixed that problem. I like the Multitracs, have them on wifes golf cart (6 ply also), and my Kubota RTV. They have done a good job. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you get turf tires on it? Mine has 4-ply Titan Tru-Power lugs on it...

I had two flats in the first few days of use. In each case, it was a puncture in a front tire from working in rubble that had broken glass, rusty metal, and who knows what....

That's what sent me looking for 6-ply tires. Instead of replacing the tires, I ended up loading the tires with WW washer fluid and adding Hydro-Seal tire sealant.

Hydro Seal

Haven't had any problems since... Knock on wood! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
