Barn Roof repair...looking for some tips

My roof is from 95, so far the nails are holding. Wooded and shaded, and we don't get the hot summers, so that may extended the washer life. Though one of my barns is from around 95, and seems to be doing ok. That one gets more sun. It has foam under it, which could hide drips. But unless it gets real bad, I wouldn't care.

Don't you pitch your roofs? The ridge and flat, are at the same angle. The only difference is it is hollow under ridge.

Of course we do and the placement of the fasteners on top of the corrugation prevents the water from channeling and concentrating over the fasteners. There are two angles one formed by the pitch the other provided by the corrugation. However we have no need to pitch as steeply as those where snow and ice are a problem. The pitch on the original posters barn would scare me to death. Maybe you trust rubber gaskets, in our climate I think the UV inhibitors would fail over a few years and start leaking and the ridge placement works for us, but I always liked physics more than chemistry. Maybe this link would be helpful

I disagree that any place on the roof is going to get less rain. I think physics shows that. The ridge is at the same pitch as the flats. Rain will fall on the entire roof, that is at the same pitch.

When I took physics, sometimes it helped to draw things out.

Afunny way we do things in Texas works well or us. .

Texans can't go to long, without mentioning Texas. They think it is different. Physics books don't have a chapter for Texas.

They have confidence issues, from being #2 biggest state.

Unless Alaska splits in half. Then they would be #3. :)

So your premise is that rain wont flow off the ridge into the valley and that if there is one angle on the pitch there can't be another angle formed by the ridge in relation to the valley. On our roofs the difference in degrees from the ridge to the valley would be greater than the angle from the ridge to a spot lower on the roof pitch the same distance away, but again we only contend with water. Seems this has gotten into a silly phase, the original poster should pull the nails & replace with gasket screws and be very careful when doing it.

Bruce, since you brought up some good natured fun about states I will give you a zinger and some extra ammo. 1 Never ask someone if the are from Texas if they are they will tell you if not why embarrass them. 2. You can always tell a Texan, but not much. As for size and worth of different states all of Alaska was purchased as were many states through the Louisiana purchase. Texas was fought for and bought with the lives of patriots. I hope each of you are as proud of your heritage as I am mine.

Texas is a little too proud. I like the politics, thought I am more pro gun.

It is funny you say fought for. Cause you are little Mexico now. Never been there. But people tell you get to places down there that are just a Mexican slum. What percentage speaks english?

Texas is a very large place and the population demographics vary by region, In the Valley there are a high percentage of Hispanics and of course in some of the cities such as San Antonio and Houston there are parts with high concentrations of Mexican and central American immigrants both legal and illegal and yes they are in the older sections of the city and not as nice as other areas maybe like Chicago or Detroit. Texas has always has a Latin influence many of the original Texas revolutionaries were Mexican nationals who like the immigrant Anglo's had enough of the broken promises of the Mexican government. We consider them just as Texan as the rest of us.When the Supreme Court ruled that all children whether of legal residence or not must be educated in public schools the attraction increased when the Reagan amnesty deal was corrupted by the immigration enforcement ceasing the floodgates opened and since our current president chooses to not enforce the laws while preventing the states from doing it the problem has increased. All that said We have enjoyed a much stronger economy than most of the USA and within the constraints imposed by the Federal government run ourselves in a sensible manner. As for your pro gun assertion, I am glad you have a pro freedom mind set however if you compare your username to mine yours is an attachment point for a grease gun, mine is the center of the Target.

Actually it is short for berserker. People started shorting it to zerk.

I am poking at how long it took you guys to get open carry. MI and WI had it possiblly as long as we were a state, not sure.
