"If i may ask where did you get your steel buiding from for that price. "

Just a local contractor that all he does is put up these steel buildings. He buys the steel in bulk and cuts and welds it right on site. The price he charges is not a whole lot more than you could buy the materials for here if you wanted to build it on your own. He can put up a building in 2 or 3 days once the slab is ready.

I started a separate post in the projects section asking for input on building up the pad site on my own.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions so far.

Last June I had a steel pole frame garage/shop built (see attachment for construction details)

24'x42' slab with 12-ft walls
two 10'x10' roll up doors
one 36"W man door
one window
6" thick slab with criss-crossed #4 rebar in the slab on 24" centers both ways

Price: nearly $24K.

Don't know what kind of steel building you're planning, but $12K sounds low. Care to share details on this structure?

To answer your question: you bet my garage/shop is overflowing, in less than a year of use. My solution is to build (eventually) a 3-bay tractor shed in an open space in the almond orchard. Probably will have one bay with a concrete slab and the other two with roadbase gravel. I like to park my implements on dollies that roll around easily on a concrete floor. Makes hookup to the 3-point hitch a lot easier.

A friend of mine had the same problem with a drop off behind his shop. What he did was dig it out level with the lowest spot. It ended up being around 30" lower than his shop. He then built a lean to over the lower area. Ended up working really good. He could park stuff that was too tall to fit in the shop back there. He ended up closing it in and added a door with steps but I think he origanally kept a camper in it. Last i saw he had his tractor and equipment in it.

Have you checked the priced for steel buildings at Muellers?

http://www.muellerinc.com/buildings/speedlist.php

I put in 30ft x 40 ft and with ten foot walls, two 10x8 openings, and 4:12 pitch, your looking at $6,807.12

Does your builders cost include the concrete pad? Cement for 1,200 square feet should run you around $3,600 to $4,000.

It's a **** of a deal if it does. If not, your paying him 5 grand for two days work. Around here, I've seen the kits assembled in a day. Larger ones take two days.

As for size, it sounds kind of small if you want to do any work in there, plus park all your stuff.

My shop is 24x30 and I don't park anything in there. Just tools and it's a pretty good size for that. No way could I keep anything in there and still build or fix anything.

Good luck,
Eddie

The $12,150 includes a 4" slab.

One of my co-workers used the same guy and is really happy with his. It is heavy duty steel I beams in the middle and ridge pole and C purling for the corners and one strip around the sides. Very efficient use of materials and it seems really sturdy. The only drawback is there aren't a lot of places to attach things to the walls. I would need to weld up some extra cross beams to attach things to.

Just thought I would update this thread.

When it came down to signing the contract, the builder said the $12,150 was for 10' walls not 12'. That brought me to $13,000 and then I went with a 16' x 10' door instead of 10'x10' so that added another $360. I have a signed contract for $13,360 so that's the final price. He should be building it this weekend and I'll post some pictures of it as it goes up. He said it should take 2 or 3 days.

I told my for years that if we just had a 30x40 here at home that would be all we needed. In 2004 I built a 30x40 and now I tell her all we need here at home is a 60x80. We are all ready planning where to add on at. One thing I wish I would have done was measure the items I was putting in the building before I built it. Now some of the items are stored at another location and I have to go and get them as I need them.

I thought I had posted my drawing in this thread. Not sure where I posted it. I measured the stuff I want to put in the barn and drew it up as a sketch.

OK now “npaden” now triple yours size once you decide what you need. I have 4000' under roof at my shop and I need more. I =f it was mine I would make the wall at least 14' height to give you room for large sheds of all sides if you wanted one day.
