Barn Value in New England

jim the listers will go on a cost per square foot average to build a brand new one or higher depending on quality.That could be $25.00 or $300.00 per. not
what it cost to actually build.I built a 10x10 wood shed out of old dead pines & rough sawn. My cost was maybe $200/250 i was assesed for $2500.00 so i
asked the lister if him wanted to buy one for that much,but he declined I would figure $50. so assesment $60,000.00 good luck j

Dont Have a good answer for you. I have been looking at a 26 x 36 two story barn/ workshop erected on your site for about $22,000 that also includes the concrete foundation. This is offered by LaValleys out of Rutland.

Id much rather have an old barn on site /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Scott, That is a very good price for that size building on a foundation.

On another note. I was quoted a price of $25K + by another builder to just replace the framework on the 24'x36' section that I rebuilt on my 1840's barn. I was to supply all the materials. Prices vary wildly on this kind of work. We also had a price of over $75K to rebuild this section. That price included materials. From that figure you can only imagine what it would cost to built a new barn that is a 36' x 60' two story. My barn was originally build with all Chestnut lumber.

Well, I dont doubt the figures that you guys have been throwing around. Your all obviously talking about timber frame construction on huge old barns compared to prices I have been getting on stick frame construction with trussed roof construction. An apples to oranges comparison ! Although the new trussed roofs in these barn/workshop buildings allows for a 10' width room upstairs which is quite neat !

There's the difference, post and beam versus stick built. I have a 3rd floor in my barn that it 12 feet wide by 14' tall if I recall correctly. Eventually I will lay down plywood off to the two sides of the 3rd floor for more storage space.

Yep, that would be my dream to own something like that And then have it planted about 75' to the right of my Vt house might be more than the old heart could take Thanks for the pic!!!
