Basic necessities to have with your tractor

because the "tool box" on my tractor is a joke. I've had it unlock on one of my rough trails and spill EVERYTHING out on the ground.

That brings up an additional question. Anyone have a good toolbox that came on the tractor??? Pictures please??? I'm thinking it's like Bigfoot, some talk about it, but there's never any proof.... :p

Sorry you took offense to that. I was making light of your obvious overkill, as did a few others (maybe we are not the ones who need to reflect?). I'm 55 years old, don't need no lectures on how to behave, thank you.

I took no offense, just making a point. But then,,,, you did it again with the "obvious overkill" statement. How is it that you would know what items I listed that are not needed and thus "overkill"??? :confused3:

. The tool box that came with mine is too small and I'm going to replace it but I don't want to get too big as it will become a clutter collector.
Theres usually some room on the axle housing just inside the rears. Lo and out of the way.

Are you suggesting between the tires and the fender vertical wall? If so the chains in winter and the branches they sometimes pick up for a turn or so would wipe it out. The 50xx E or D series is assembled in India. The ones they sell there have a seat on the fender for the Mother -in-law. OSHA says you can't risk that here hence the tiny toolbox which real design function is to make it impossible to ride on the fender. Mine has flat topped fenders with room for a box equal to two or three milk crates end to end. It is a bit high up even for me so a tall box would be hard to see into so I'm thinking a box the length and width of the flat fender surface that is no more then eight inches high or one that has a side door to let you see the bottom without climbing on the rear tire. The other fender may become a modified milk crate(s) that will serve as a chain saw scabbard and oil ,gas and falling wedge holder.

I have marked the nut & bolt sizes clearly in marker on anything I have to remove or tighten (I'm terrible at guesstimating size). I carry open end wrenches for the implements I'm going to use that day. Shear pins are a must for me as is a cell phone.

With 30" wheels no problem. A narrow setting would not work. Wide setting is fine.

Most of my extra tools, etc are carried on my implements. Extra locking pins on all implements and shear bolts for those that are pto driven. Crescent wrenches on those that have nuts/bolts that will need adjustment. I keep the required tools on my implements - in the op manual tube

Good idea. I might put some sidecutters in my bush hog tube for when I get tangled up in rope or fencing.

That's a cooler. My Son gave it to me several years ago. Looks just like a Delco battery huh. :)

As for Larry's suggested location on the axle housing. Some tractors have room there but it's not gonna be a CUT or small Utility tractor.

I like your first idea of a box the length/width of the fender with short side.

Personally, I would not like the opening on the side. Something will fall out every time you open it. And the item you desire will always be in the back.

Make sure you start a thread and post up some pics when you get it built. I"m always on the lookout for new ideas. :)
