That type of system has existed for years. Trains, busses etc. all use it or have used it. Then there are subway systems.
Yes, if you count out inner city busses witch have had this for decades its new on trucks.

I will say it again, electric cars don't make sense right now. Ditch the concept all together. Turn the focus to residential and commercial solar capture with battery storage. Scale to the load as needed. Alleviate the stress to the grid, then you don't have to build it out in the future.

It makes no sense to force a square peg into a round hole. Trying to electrify transportation requires downtime to charge at specific locations. Industry is not going to slow down for charging when there are super fast and convenient alternatives available and proven. It defies all economic laws, it's not sustainable in the long run.

Which brings us to the elephant in the room...batteries. They're not there yet. They need to store about 10x more energy before it makes economic sense in a car. I'm sure we'll get there, and then accommodate the tech.
I would assume you are not familiar with trains that run on overhead electricity systems.

How is that relatable to a battery based infrastructure?

Here is the EV power source some of you have been clamoring for.
That's Radiant's micro High Temperature Gas Reactor. Not sure what Elon Musk has to do with it other than Radiant was co-founded by former SpaceX engineers. They were originally researched as a way to provide power for the Mars colony. Coincidentally Bill Gates is big into nuclear power with TerraPower's Natrium reactor. As the US moves towards decentralized generation we'll probably be seeing more talk about nuclear options.

EV sales account for 2% of total vehicle sales...

You have a weird way of clamming a sea change...
2% was last years numbers and only for the US. This year it more than doubled to over 5%, and globally about 1 out of every 12 cars sold is an EV. In Europe 1 out of every 4 new cars sold is an EV. What growth rate/market share numbers do we need to qualify it being a sea change?

How do you know the sales figures in 2021 when 2021 is not over yet. Those usually come out in February.

Sea change usually means a plurality so...>50%.
