Battery life for BX series

Milo, it sounds like you are doing most of it right. That is still a long time for a lead -acid battery.I like trickle chargers and distilled water too, plus treated post washers. A lot of batteries will now come from China, plus shorter life ??Jy.

For the poster with 10 years on the same battery- you are an extremely rare individual. I suppose if batteries arent used much they last longer. I have never been able to get much more than 3-4 years on any car battery regardless of brand name. Car batteries are in heavy service compared to tractors that may run several hours carrying minimal if any load whereas cars have all kinds of electrical load and constantly discharge and charge.

I usually average 7 to 10 years from my batteries.
My last pickup battery lasted 10 years.
The original battery in my 2001 Kioti tractor is still going strong.
The batteries in my JD tractor is around 8 years old and our car around 7 years old and I'm expecting a several more years out of those.

2006 BX24 with 704 hours on it and it just died yesterday. Shows good on th ebattery checker one minute and bad the next. They think the post was loose inside??

New battery...going strong. My Dad always told me that if you get 4-5 years out of a battery, replace it and go on with life.

Correct...plus, batteries are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace...

As you say, there are numerous factors. I got a bit over 3 years, the same as my car batteries. Our temperature gets up to 115, and extreme heat drives the chemical reactions in these batteries faster, shortening their lives. It would be better to compare batteries under similar climates and conditions of use.

Thats a good point about the heat. Heat is hard on batteries, you just notice it in the winter, since that is when the cold saps the cold cranking amps.

Still have the original battery in my bx1500, purchased new in March 2005. About 750 hrs on the meter.

Replaced the original Delco battery in my 2001 GMC Sierra Pickup about two years ago. It was still working fine, but I figured after 8 years I was pushing my luck. IMO it was better to replace it before it failed than to wait and be left stranded somewhere with a dead battery.

It would be less inconvenient to me to have a tractor battery fail, so I usually don't replace them until they die on me.

I traded my BX 2200 in April 2009-bought in April 2000. I had 1257 hours on it and still had the original battery-never had a charger nor jumper cables attached to it.
