Do a little more searching. Years ago, I remember seeing a block type heater that was inserted into the radiator hose by cutting the hose and clamping the heater portion in place of the portion of hose you had to remove.

A company called Phillips & Temro distribute lower hose heaters in 5 sizes from 1" to 2" hose size. They are available from NAPA auto parts here in Ohio. They might also be branded ZEROSTART.

Correct. Hose type heaters actually exist in a few sizes to adapt to many engines, like 1.5",2" etc. They are designed to circulate the heated water as well.
