battery terminal corrosion

I'd try to cut the bolt between the two halves of the lead clamp. After cutting I'd soak the area in WD40 or penetrating oil and let it sit a couple of hours. Then, I'd try to pull the halves of the bolt out from each side of the clamp while gripping the bolt with vise-grips or pliers and twisting while pulling. When you finish, you can clean out the hole for the new bolt with a similar sized drill bit. Since the clamp is soft, the bolt should come out okay. Good luck!

Purchased an Optima 51R from www.remybattery.com for $89.90(USD). They finally received a shipment in just before Thanksgiving. Not sure if this was/is a "sale" price or their normal price. The +2y/o original factory battery was starting to form some "cottage cheese" at the terminal.

Hello all,

Just to make a long story short, this morning I noticed a white residue on the floor under the front of my DX33 with 107 hrs. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Popped the hood and the Battery tray is wet.

Went to my dealer and tried to get him to replace the whole tractor with the new one sitting in his showroom /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but he didn't think that would be necessary. Service man will be out tomorrow to check it out.

I know it's not a NH, but they are related.

I'd wash down the area immediately and check to see if the radiator is wet. If so, I'd wash the radiator and front of engine as well. What is typically happening is the battery acid, once it sloshes out or gets bubbled out, gets sucked by the fan into the radiator and blown all over the front of the engine. NH has replaced many a radiator and related pieces as a result.

The new Boomers now have a hose coming out of the top of the battery that runs through the bottom of the engine compartment.

The new one I looked at today did not have an overflow hose on the battery. The Service Manager did mention that they had some batteries like that at one time, but didn't have any right now.

I have a suggestion that might help you Here's an illustration of all the parts of the battery shelf. You can print a copy of the illustration. Then, as you inspect your tractor, you can mark all the parts that need to be replaced. Give the illustration to your dealer so he knows what parts to order to fix your tractor. You might also need a new radiator and hydrostatic transmission cooler lines in addition to what is shown in this illustration. Good luck with your repair. I had all this stuff replaced and now my tractor is holding up well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Had the same problem with my TC33D. Recently while cleaning the terminals I noticed that the positive terminal had come loose from the battery and you could literally lift it out of the battery case. I put an Optima 51, (not a 51R), in my tractor and it works great. It matched up perfectly with the factory battery mount hardware. The terminal locations are just like the original battery too.
