I know several of you are from Southern Indiana area, thought you might have a neighbor that has pups for sale. I'm looking for a couple tri-color beagle pups for around $40-50 each (pets not for hunting) that are 6 to 8 weeks old. Hey, have two tractors therefore I need two pups! Actually, I have two boys. Beagles make mighty nice pets. I know many of you that read post are not registered (like me for 2 years) so I will include my email. rodbeth@juno.com thanks!

can you really find beagle pups for that price out west? that is only about 10% of a puppy here in maryland!

Rodney,

Personally, I'd go the the local shelter and get a used
dog. They are can be had already housebroken, already knowing
a few commands, already known to be good with kids and big
enough to not always be stepping on them all the time etc. They
also usually come with their 50 hour service (read fixed and with
up to date shots.) That will save you quite a bit of money. Also
most dog problems show up in the first couple years and a used dog
is past those heartbreaking experiences.

Mainly though, if you adopt an adult dog, you can determine his temperment
and attitudes before you decide. A puppy can grow into about anything.
Dogs, even within breeds, can vary quite a bit.

But best of all, the dog you adopt will not be killed.

And don't be fooled by this "But I want to bond with them when they
are a puppy" stuff. It just ain't true. A dog will bond to you as though you had
him since he was a puppy in less than two weeks. Usually it only takes 3
to 5 days. Mature dogs are the best. For a beagle, about 3 or so.

Oh, and beagle rescue often has puppies too, if your heart's set on it.

look at pet finder
or rescue list

KoKopelli, I guess dogs are like tractors, always cheaper out of state. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm not looking for a registered dog with a long line of pedigree. I have seen many 40 and $50 beagles when I didn't want one. I have found some now but they are 1 week old, so I may just wait awhile. Cliff, you make a good point, I'll look around.

Thanks all,

You can't even get a dog from a Humane Society for that price. Are you looking for a Beagle-Mix? If you find someone with real Beagles for $40-$50 I'd like to get their name.

We had to put our Beagle (not purebred) down last December. My wife had found her as a pup on the side of the road with a hefty bag tied around her neck. Apparently whoever had her was some cruel person.

Here is a picture of Yoshie I took a couple years back. She is truely missed.

One thing about Beagles -- once they get outside and they get on a scent -- they are OFF and running.

No Beagle mixes, purebred. Looked at a couple last week for $45 but they were females and I want males although females usually sell a little higher here. The ladies brother had pups born last week and will sell in 2 months for $45. Also have a friend that will get pups soon, he usually sells his a little less. I found bluetick beagles locally for $50 but again I prefer the traditional tri color. So for pets $50 is not uncommon. Again, they are not registered stock.
Gatorboy, your dog was a cute one, marked like I would like to have. You are a long way from me but if you are out this way I could find one given enough time. I'm sure most people here have never shipped (air) their pups.

Here's ours, showing her usual attitude. We rescued her from a family who would of probably had her for dinner if we hadn't swiped her. She had a chain around her neck so tight I couldn't get it loose and had to cut it off. She was about 4 months old when we got her, she's 9 now. She's had a lot of trouble with her neck (because of the chain) and a lot of expense to try to keep her comfortable, but she's worth it.
