Woman sustains significant injuries in bear attack near Leavenworth

The victim, a woman in her sixties, was walking her dog in her neighborhood just outside of Leavenworth when she was attacked by the bear, according to CCSO’s chief of patrol, Adam Musgrove.

Guess you need to have some bear spray with you when in an area where bears are. Glad the injuries were none life threatening.

When we were out hiking we were told to make noise. Lots of noise. You do not want to "sneak up" on a bear who was sleeping. This gives them the chance to make a getaway. We use to walk thru bear country all the time. Never had any bad experiences. We lived in Alaska.

Leavenworth is a beautiful village patterned after an old German village. We enjoyed our visit. Was up that way a couple of weekends ago, but didn't go quite that far north. Now that there's been a bear attack, I can go back since the next one should be in 50+ years.

Yes, it's a tourist trap and i remember what it looked like before it got prettied up into a Bavarian looking town. I have to admit, it's prettier now then back in the good ole days. Heck i'll even stop there when visiting relatives in East Wenatchee.
