He has some experienced trappers that I guess also know how to shoot as well. He mentioned to me that he might set a boom box near the crawl hole and play some loud RAP music as Harv mentioned, funny how you can't spell CRAP without RAP. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Dept of Fish and Game said that this bear is probably responsible for several cabin breakin's. As was mentioned, he now knows where the easy food is and that accoding to Fish and Game is the problem. The animal society folks are the ones who identified the bear, the young girl saw it by going to the crawl hole and peeking in with a flashlight. They recommend doing nothing allowing the bear to simply leave. It is a Black bear that are very common around the Lake Tahoe area. We see them frequently. All of the garbage containers we have are "bear proof". They seem to be working well except that now the cabins are the easier target. The bears are given chances when they do this. They are identified and relocated. After so many repeats, they are killed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I had a friend have his cabin broke into by a black bear. It trashed the place and he's never had a problem again. That was 10 years ago. I just find it hard to believe a bear cares too much to come back.
As for getting it out of there it seems somebody should be able to help other than shooting the thing. If it came back again then I'd kill it but it could be a freak thing.
It would be nice to have pictures if possible

They have a permit, it's a nuisance animal, put it down and don't agonize over it. If it were 1 of my neighbors, it would be a done deal.

I read all the post and had another thought about a bear under the cabin! One point to consider is how to get a dead bear out from under a cabin! If there is plenty of access, then I d think it would be a danger to walk up to the cabin and if it's boxed in, etc, How U gonna get a 300lb+ dead bear out from under a low cabin! I don't have any ideals but know that when one little squirrel died in my attic, right above my front door, IT WASN'T a pleasent odor! Got the picture! What ever rte you go, have it planned out from execution to disposal!

Maybe its just me, but I would have my mother-in-law (or perhaps one of the local politicians) poke it a few times with a sharp stick to wake it up and get it to crawl out from under there on its own, then I'd run off to fetch my gun after it crawled out from under the cabin and I could get a clear shot at it.

But Bob, really, your mother in law! In the end she would get you back because the bear would eat her, go in the house and go pooh and there is your mother in law all over again just in another form. Meanwhile the bear crawls back under the house and sleeps.
