Tractor
Had a BX 24, now have an L2501
I saw this little girl while on my tractor driving down our gravel road from a neighbor's house. Made me wish the BX had a couple more gears. Her cub was with her, but I didn't get a good picture of it. They both ran off pretty quick. Don't worry though. I didn't take this picture from the tractor seat 'cause the hair on the back of my neck was standing up waaaaay too much. I quickly upped the rpm's and rode home to get in the car to get this picture. Whew. :D
Check out those pearly whites:D:D.

Great picture. Do you see them often? Do they cause any problems around the house?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Eddie. My neighbors seen them a lot, but this is the first for me. They've moved my grill around for the past few years and scratched up my back deck a little, but never actually seen them untill this week. Three of my neighbors feed deer, one with a feeder, got dragged into the woods, the other, destroyed, and the other(where I saw the bears) feeds deer out of a tire. His bird feeder was laying on the ground. Other than that I havn't seen any other damage. My wife and I go for walks around here, guess we'll have to get some pepper spray(just in case). I think it's the deer feeding and bird feeders that have been attracting them, along with some people around here that pile up their trash on their porch.

I just noticed if you enlarge the picture by clicking on it, you can see the head of the cub behind the tree all the way to the left. Just barely.

They are common here in the N GA mountains...this one has been tearing up our bird feeders and whatever else they can get into...

This one had just come across the river (it's all wet)bear_09-9.jpg

Our neighbors reported there is a bear running in our area, but I didn't see him yet They come down from Bull Run Mountains when the summer gets dry, from what I have heard. Not sure I want one in our backyard, God knows what the dogs would do.

That's indeed one healthy bear...must be some good eatings for her to keep the cub close to humans.

pepper spray might be a good idea in some cases, but using it on a momma with cub good be VERY bad for ones health. Your better of just being carefull and paying attention to your surroundings. Also while your out walking make noise so they know your there. Surprising a momma or pretty much any bear could also be a very bad health choice. We have them up here and they are a joy to have around but they can cause mischief. When I do see them I try talking to them and stay as calm as possible. If it is a momma with cub then I give lots of space.

We did have some folks{moved up from city} that would feed them thought it was a good idea at time. After having one follow them into their small/tight garage looking for hand outs changed their mind  :D

Good words of advice. All walkers around here in the country take bear spray with them, but I'm not sure I ever want to be close enough to have to use it! I saw this guy in my field a couple of years ago. Also, a neighbour was out on his ATV along a hydro right-of-way and saw a mama bear with cub about 1/4 mile away. She didn't want him around, and came running at him! He had to turn around (in a hurry) and boogey as fast as his ATV would carry him in the opposite direction. I like seeing them around, but they are for sure critters to be careful with!

I think that some folks see them and because of their size and manors they feel they're slow and clumsy. Nothing could be further from the truth they can run just as fast as a horse and they are like natures ninja's

Yep....everyone likes bears and wolves and cougars.....until they are living in YOUR backyard. I think it's funny how many of the city folk want to protect ALL the predatory critters.....but when a bear is living in the suburbs (near their backyard) ....they want that bear destroyed.....and NOW!!!

What's that thing hanging in the tree above the bear? Before I enlarged the photo I thought it was a hornet's nest.

This is the only wild bear I ever saw in my life, but I was safe when I took the photo because I was on a cruise ship in June in Alaska.

I,ll agree with You . there is a huge difference Between city folk bitchin about critters that have allways been there untill they invaded their space. I just dont happen to be one . :D

I,m a firm beleiver You do what You have to do to protect Your familly & property with any means necesary , But there is quite a bit of difference between a black bear , Wolf & Mountan lion . It only takes common sense to know the difference IMHO .

Even some country folk aint smart enough to know what attracts predators . I,d much rather enjoy the critters & nature more then the Neighbors , Which I do not have a problem with . :D .

& in case You didn,t know it Your living in their backyard . Bob

If you look all the way to the left you'll see the tree on the edge of the photo. The cub's head is just to the right still in the woods. Hard to make out but it's there.

I think it's some kind of ornament hanging from a branch. I didn't notice it before. When I get home I'll take a closer look and let you know.

I read somewhere an advice from a guy living in Alska that you should not spray it on the bear but on your own face so you don't see what is going to happen to you.
