Bed Protection for Firewood Trailer ???

ply wood! PT if you can't keep the trailer out of the weather.

Sliding firewood is a boon, horse stall mats would cripple the slide.

Myself , I would suffer the dents in the steel deck to get the smooth slide.

I work with a pulp hook or pick-er-oon, so every ounce matters

Thanks all for the info and thoughts on those stall mats. I have never handled one but I heard somewhere that they were good for p/u beds. But from what I here from you guys I think I'll stick with the laying a piece plywood in the bed when I am doing firewood.

Gordon once you have a "layer" of firewood down, you should be able to toss away with the 1st layer distributing the impact.

We have a local belting store that sells used conveyor belting, some of it is 3/4" thick.

It will cut with a retractable knife. look for that, I have bolted it in a couple trailers.

Once in, it is almost bulletproof.,, actually some of it is bulletproof.
A neighbor was using a piece of it to hold targets for shooting.
The belting caught many of my 45 ACP rounds, the jacketed bullets looked like they could be reused,,, :D

The bed will rust out in short order with a covering unless you remove it every time. I’d either deal with it or re cover the trailer with heavier steel or use a 2x6 decking.

TSC sells rubber mat on a roll - cut to length. Less expensive than a stall mat.

No idea of the cost, as I got sheets free for the taking, but my trailer has a bed of aluminum treadplate. Good quarter inch thick, firewood won't touch it.and would allow sliding in dump bed.

The stall mats will not mind the cold. We had no problem with them in the stalls at -15f actual air temp.

It will make it difficult for the wood to slide out. They have a texture to them for horses to get traction. Both sides are textured. They weigh about 75 lbs each. I cut them to fit the stall with a sawzall.
