rw, no slight meant against you at all. I just don't agree with ye cell phone/car comparison methodology. We customers really don't like a salesman to make comeback remarks even if what we say is a bit off. And it's like I said, car dealerships have conditioned customers to be plumb leery and defensive to even go to a dealership. Dealers did this to themselves over MANY years, and it'll take a while and the internet research to begin to change that customer feeling. Like I said, I've had three decent dealer experiences in my long life. I could give a few anecdotes of terrible experiences (I didn't buy) but no need, we all know and have a story.

Anyway, please understand my feelings - I am VERY appreciative of your input here with this car buying topic. You can give us insight that we can't know otherwise. And, hey, I'm in Columbus and travel all over MS, I might stop in and have you buy me a cup o' java some time! I'm a truck man, so might even check out ye trucks!

No problem. It probably sounded like I was being a smart ***** with the phone analogy, but it's the old deal "it's not what you say, but how you say it". I have a very easy going personality, and can talk with nearly anyone. You've got to be able to joke with some people, to get them to lighten up, then they will feel comfortable.

If you're ever down my way, drop on by, the coffee pot's always on !

Back when we owned the business, we purchased several new trucks and vans from a dealership in the city that was geared more towards business. Meaning besides the OTR tractors, 95% of pickups and vans were white.

Our salesman was teamed up with another salesman. They shared a large office and split their commissions 50/50. We rarely negotiated on price (well, me being me I always had to "win" and get something) but it usually was floor mats or hats...

It was a nifty setup. If Dennis was busy on the phone or with a customer - then you spoke with Duane or vise versa. They communicated well amongst themselves and talking to one was like talking to both. And they were very successful.

Somewhere in every dealership - break room or wherever there's always a tally of # of units sold per salesman for the given period. My tag team sales duo was always so far ahead of the next salesman it was embarrassing. Like ten times more.

Has anyone ran across this before? I am sure it would take the right combination of personalities to make it work - but it seemed like a smart way to cover your clients. It obviously worked for them.
