Beer...avoiding skunk

IPAs are my favorites. A brewpub without a good IPA is a waste of space! Our local Brewpub has Ed's IPA, named after a deceased client, who probably needed very little embalming fluid It is usually quite bitter, but I hear lately it is slightly less so due to a shortage of hops. Anyone heard of a hop crop failure?

Chuck

Yes there was a huge hop shortage (2007 - 2008) and homebrew prices (in particular) jumped; the hop acerage in Europe should be up to par by 2010.

To put this on the correct track. Drinking IPA beer is like using Dino Oil in your tractor!:D:D:D:D There. That shall stir the pot! :D:D:D
So then not drinking IPA is a waste of money? Never mind, you can't argue beer with me. I'll drink anything and like it. Cold, warm, bottle, can, there's a beer for every occasion as near as I can tell. ;)
I enjoy the different tastes. Some of my favourites are ones that I would rather not have two of at any one sitting. They are my Christmas beers. Last year it was a local called Wind and Sail Ale. I'll have one, then move on to something more mainstream if I am still thirsty.

I guess you just haven't had a good one then :D :D, IPA's are higher in alcohol content thus the quick headache. I think they have a vibrant taste, best one I've had so far has to be from a brew pub in Phila

Bass Ale has a nice hops bite but the Applacian Brewing Co. [Harrisburg, Gettysburg & Camp Hill] has an IPA called Hoppy Tails that grabs your taste buds and pulls them hard without pulling them out! Brew Pubs are bringing taste back to american brewing though Yungling makes a respectable product especially since the other respectable PA brand was purchased by crudwieser and the fine water in Newark, NJ is NOT as good as the spring water of 'Old Latrobe"...the Rock is busted...

[Given the beer the OP has and quantity -- not sure it would ever go skunky and even if it did, could you tell the difference???:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ask some of my friends in the UK and they'll tell you all those American brews that some one decided to call beer, are just watered down Lagers. Bah! Give me a Yuenglings any day. :D :D

RedHook has a sampler 12 pack at my grocery store. It was under $13 so I bought it. :) The sampler had an IPA it was not bad but I would not buy a six pack. At least no head ache.

Its fun to watch the 12 pack beer prices. Sometimes I can get Fosters for $10-11. I get whatever is under $13. The beers seem to rotate under that price. Sam Adams could be had for months at that price and then went to $15.

Yuenglings are very good. I really like their Black and Tans. They were not in my area until a few years ago.

Later,
Dan

Alaskan Brewery has a nice IPA, I think. When I went to Alaska a couple months ago I decided to taste test all their beers. The Amber was pretty good but I didn't care for their Porter or their Stout.

They had 5 different ales. White Ale, Summer Ale, Winter Ale, Pale Ale and IPA. I liked one of them a lot but after so many beers I couldn't remember which one it was but I think it was the IPA.
