Thanks YanderA shear pin model does exactly as it sounds, shears a pin which will render the cutter useless until you replace that pin. It sacrifices the shear pin vs. major damage to he cutter. The slip clutch will just slip and the cutter will continue to work.
You have to carry tools and extra pins if you have a shear pin type cutter.
Slip clutch are almost always preferred.
