As a new member of TractorByNet,just wanted to say hello and hope to be able to learn and possibly assist someone in the future.

Re: Comments about JD 100 series.
As some of you have already mentioned, they are a good quality low end machine, better than most for the money.
I just recently sold my 2005 L111 that I had purchased new and used for
seven full seasons.
Replaced it with a 2011 Husqvarna GTH27V48LS Garden Tractor as I felt it was time to bail out of the Deere--WHY ?? 400 plus hrs. 1 acre with hard use, carts, heavy Craftsman lawn sweeper, and a hilly ditch. All of this and I replaced one (1) mower drive belt and one (1) headlamp bulb !!! That's WHY--
Still ran as new, never used any oil, and still was a sharp looking machine.JD's
do hold their value better than most other--Sold this for 1/2 of what it cost new ($ 1,800).
Very good service for an inexpensive machine,BUT knew I was on borrowed time for repairs and tranny so switched to Orange.
Hope I made the right choice as the Husky GT seems so much tougher than JD X300. Time will tell as I already have complaints after 16 Husky hrs.
But then, old engineers pick everything apart.
Thanks, Neil

I find your logic hard to follow, you had to change a belt and lightbulb in 400 hrs of hard use so you changed brands? Hope the new mower works as well as the Deere for you.

400 hours . . . Sounds like you just got the Deere broke in good. I suspect you will be really cursing that husky in 400 hours, if it makes it that far.

Steve,

Re: Belair
Re: Logic---This is a difficult word to define--When a man gets it in his head that he WANTS a new car,or a new lawn tractor, (even if he doesn't need it)try explaining this "logic" to your wife.
Anyway, LOGIC #!-in going from Deere to Husq.:
This L111 Deere was light duty in all respects and I felt that I had pushed it to the limit without incurring any expenses. When I purchased this Deere, didn"t know the T40 Tuff-Torq transaxle was so prone to failure as are the deck spindles, steering, etc.Check the record for the 100 series transaxles with far fewer hours than I had.If (and when) this tranny fails, I'm stuck with a worthless machine as I feel it would not have been prudent to purchase a new T40 for around $600 plus labor and still have an old machine with a weak
tranny.
LOGIC #2--Wanted a new Deere X300--very nice machine, has a better tranny (K46) than the T40, but still a relatively light duty tranny, same small
tires as a L111, abd believe it or not, NO gas gage. One has to visually look at the translucent plastic tank to determine amount of fuel remaining.
LOGIC #3--Didn't mention that I'm still recovering for hip surgery and wanted a smoother ride. NOTE: The Husqvarna GTH27V48LS that I did buy does NOT ride as nicely as I had hoped.
Last & LOGIC #4--MONEY !!!---Had purchased two previous Deere machines from our local dealer and on three (3) different occassions tried to purchase the new 2011 model X300 and he refused to come down any money at all from the MSRP of $3,400.(48") (No mulch kit)
SO, the Garden Tractor from Husqvarna MSRP of approx #3,140 (with
mulch kit) was reduced by our local Husqvarna dealer TO $2,775.
This Husq has 27HP B&S Pro series engine with electronic fuel management etc. coupled with a Hydro-Gear ground engaging transaxle.
Will not be using this to dig up the earth, just wanted a tougher machine at a fair price.
Steve, hope this answers your question and also hope I made the right decision. (NOTE--the Deere Co. currently has approx. three separate recalls in effect right now, one being the 2011 X300 for burned up engines due to engine cooling screen failure) Some 35,000 or so have been recalled.
Best Regards, Neil B
