I have an old MTD. I removed a bad drive (trans) belt and main deck belt the other day and decided to skip on day down and grab a couple more right quick. Now I have two foot tall grass and a dead MTD shell out front. Local mower shop can't find this Model No. anywhere, so they call the expert and he can't find it. MTD personel (some kid) says "There's no such number." told me all the model nos. are under the seats, mine is under the hood cover.
TMO 33566A is the elusive no. Anyone know what my next step should be?

Have you tried Jack's Small Engines? They stock tons of parts and I have found them to be very knowledgeable and helpful. They may be able to figure out which belt you need:

Ken, I believe these P/Ns cross reference to a 1/2 x 89 V belt.

Can you cross reference a Western Auto #248089 or #754-0248? Or maybe Stens?

Just take your belt to the auto parts store and have them measure it. I just got a belt for my Craftsman Mower for $9.99 at O'Riley Auto Parts. It was $35 at Sears.

Something that i have discovered about lawnmower belts is just because it cross references to a 1/2 x 89 doesn't mean it is 1/2 wide or 89 inches long. Have run into cases where 1/4 can mean the difference between working and not working.

Still don't come up. I need the # off the belt. I have a guy that works for me that put white talc powder on the # area on the belt, got out in the sun with a magnifying glass and got the #. He is back to mowing. Ken Sweet

got the MTD model number from the mtd/montgomery ward cross reference. Try typing just the 139-758 into the parts lookup since the last three numbers are the code for who it was manufactured for.

I have a MTD and also couldn't find the drive belt number listed in the catalogs. I did just what Diamondpilot suggest. I took my almost completely distroyed belt to a Do It Best hardware shop (like an Ace hardware) and they were able to measure it on a little belt measureing device. The new one fit just right. It was about $10 too!
