Rotary Cutter Bending lift arms on brush hog

/ Bending lift arms on brush hog #41
I used to run a 917 Ford Flail mower on a 42 PTO HP Universal Tractor. No problems. Then I put in on the larger JD and I broke the two "S" arms that converge at the top link attachment point.

There must have been some undue stress there as the arms broke where they had been bent in the factory.

I never did solve this mystery, and just don't use this mower any more.

This is a good informative thread. With my first LP bush hog, I bent the arms/straps not knowing how this was supposed to work and having the set up too tight for the swivel action to accommodate the angle in some spots.

The swinging link should be designed to prevent lockup in the straight position. Maybe out of wack or too stiff in the joints.

One note of caution(?) is to be mindful of any PTO shaft's available compression/extension.

Might be another case here where a hydraulic top link could be worth having.
