Best 4 foot tiller

Hi All, I am looking to get a 4 foot 3 pt tiller for the garden. I have no experience with these and seeking some input. I would like to get the best that I can for this as I love gardening and want this to last a while for me. I have a local dealer for mahindra which is what my tractor is, the emax 22, and he has a brand called Kodiak and says they are very good. I am open to all suggestions and especially landpride, phoenix from everything attachments.com. and woods. I an not sure if gear drive or chain drive too if that is even a factor. Please advise. I can use all the help I can get!

I've got an emax25 hst and the everything attachments 4' rotary tiller. No complaints with it. Iirc it's a terra force tiller, chain drive, 4 tines per row. I think they do 4 tines as it's easier on the lower pto powered tractors. My emax has no issues turning it, though I did manage to stop the tractor dead in its tracks when I wedged a football sized rock between the housing and the tines. It does have a slipper clutch so there's no need to replace shear pins. i spent years forking a garden by hand a 1/4 of the size of my current garden and it was nothing short of torture, now in thirty minutes I till and turn in 10 yards of composted horse manure into a 80x 80 garden, from the seat of my mahindra. You might also check out the hiller bedder attachment everything attachments has, makes nice raised rows and potatoes are a breeze to plant, hill and dig.

Most any tiller will last a lifetime just working a small garden plot I wouldn't put to much into worrying about that, I would pay more attention to reverse tine vs foward tine configuration and which suited your situation.

I agree with both of the posts above. You should be able to till about six inches deep and be done in short order. A tiller of this size should last forever tilling a garden. Keeping it stored out of the weather and slipping the clutch each year should make for a long life.

Chain drive or gear drive??

It depends, either one "property made" will hold up pretty much forever in a garden...

I have three Howards, all chain drive and one is coming up on two THOUSAND acres, the chain/sprockets are just fine and have lots of life left in them.

I've seen gear drive failures, so like I already said, it "depends"... Properly made, both hold up...but I prefer chain...

Go to the Agri-Supply website, and check out the "Tillovator".
The "Tillovator" is gear driven, and has excellent reviews.
It is also the "best bang for the buck"
Agri-Supply is also a fantastic company to deal with.
I have a King Kutter 60" tiller, and I like it.
If I were to buy again though, I would probably buy the Tillovator, because it can be offset to the right by 4".
That is a great feature,....... to cover your tire tracks.

Thanks for all of the responses everyone. I checked out that Tillovator and it looks good. They have a 48 inch gear drive one and also a 56 inch one too but it is chain drive. The dealer suggested that my tractor can only work a 48 inch one but the specs on that caroni says that it should work on the 56 inch one too, but the 56 inch one does not have the slip clutch. It looks nice though.

In my limited experience any brand tiller will be okay if properly maintained. I would get one wide enough to cover my tire tracks.

thats a good point. I watched a video on everything attachments, and they talked about having to cut the pto shaft? Can I get a tiller where I do not have to do this to hook it up?

It really is not too hard to cut the shaft. (Just sounds bad) If you check out the online videos on how to do it you may feel comfortable. Also some dealers will cut them for you if you buy it from them.
