Well, I think you'd be dead at least 50% of the time!
At 6 feet it's point and shoot...not at arm's length either. I wouldn't be too concerned about where I hit you as long as I slowed or stopped you.

ditto 100%

I'l take a gun up close vs a knife.. me with t he gun someone else with the knife.

I'll take those odds all day long. only alternative is me bare handed vs the knife. I don't like them odds.. i'm a much better shot than a fist fighter vs a knife..

I think from 6 feet if the gun was holstered it could be a big problem. My guess is that seeing the gun ends most situations. I don't plan on a bunch of casual gun fights - I'm pretty far from the hood! If someone breaks into my house though, let's just say I believe in the death penalty.

my scenerio i posted assumed gun drawn, cocked and locked or condition 1 or lower ;) maybee even finger on the trigger instead of to the side.. :)

now.. if the gun was holstered or some other condition, IE.. no fish in the pipe or safety on.. etc.. then faced with a perp at 6' away with a knife.. I think I'm gonna get cut, unless I can run real fast, or have something I can use to immediatly intervene with like a desk to side step to, to give me draw time.. etc..

It's Beretta for me. I like having a similar feel and controls on different models.

Plus, to me there is no semi auto prettier than my 9MM Cougar Inox. It's a gorgeous piece of workmanship and shoots like a dream.

I also like that you can mix and match Berettas, for example I have a conversion kit that turns my .40 into a .22. It feels the same but is much cheaper to shoot.

Nice thing about a GLOCK...no safety. Just like a computer mouse...point and click.
Drawing from a holster quickly...now that can be a sticking point, especially if the holster is buried under layers of clothing or a buttoned or zippered jacket.
One does need to practice drawing (with an unloaded handgun, of course). And one does want a good quality holster that will retain the gun, yet allow a quick draw.
That said, I wear an old Galco OWB with a retention strap. The strap pops loose quite easily (but not easy enough to come off by itself). Works for me...but as I'd written earlier, I don't care where I hit the assailant, as long as I stop him.

Sometimes a safety might not be a bad idea, not everyone is good with Glock action.

I remember when this video came out, I think it was about the time there was some Glock bashing going on regarding safety. not sure if it is in fact a Glock.

I'm a big Glock fan, IMO you have to start with glock first when considering the best all around pistol in 9, 40 and maybe 45. start with glock and try and determine why another choice would be better for an individuals special needs.

There have been some cop bashing threads about brutality and stupidity, but this guy deserves the commendation and praise he got after this situation.

Cop VS. Crazed Criminal = Unbelievable Street Fight - YouTube

Was glad to see that eventually citizens came to his aid, at first people were just walking by like it was nothing out of the ordinary. The suspect seemed pretty lethargic but definitely not cooperative.

Very true about not everyone is good with a GLOCK. I never recommend a lighter trigger with any carry gun...and always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Stress in a self defense situation could easily result in a pistol firing before one is ready.
Another thing to consider...and this is both good and bad, depending on the circumstances. The GLOCK, like many other semi-autos, does not have a magazine disconnect which means the gun can still fire if there is a round in the chamber (after the magazine has been removed). Since it's required to pull the trigger before taking the gun down for cleaning, it is absoutely essential to check and recheck that chamber!!!!!!!!!!!
I almost shot my own windshield out when I first owned a GLOCK...that little fellow on my shoulder whispered "check the chamber". Good thing I did!!
I love GLOCKS (about as much as I love any tool), but it's a firearm for an experienced gun owner...maybe not the choice for a first time owner.
